LOL, if you understand tsunami, you'd know she was safer out to sea than on land.
Heh. Good imagery. It hints at solving all economic woes, by creating a class of litterers, and a class of cleaners.
It's very possible that NO ONE could have had the physical strength to control the boat and sail through the violent Indian Ocean at the worst possible time of the year.
Tusunamis can and have capsized vessels before. All tsunamis are different and it all depends on whether you are riding the wave (like a surfer) or crashing into it.
Makes you wonder who - if anyone - would insure a boat under these circumstances.
DJ - you’re too funny, do you walk around with a bicycle helmet on all day? You could fall.
So that’s what it was? Love of sailing in the southern ocean in the winter time? Dream on.
You are assuming he wasn't in Australia.
I agree with you.
My grandfather, at 9, was sent up to the mountains of Italy with a herd of sheep. He’d be there for days and have to hide from wolves. At 16 he travelled to America - alone. Our country was built by adventurous risk takers.
Abby tried and failed. I think Geraldo is jealous because he sailed around the world with a full crew. Abby and her brother made him look bad.
Quite a few of FR's posters are media savvy. Some are members of the profession themselves, others are amateur students of propaganda.
But what's frustrating is seeing those who conflate adventure/self-sufficiency/conservatism with an obvious, money-grubbing publicity stunt.
I'll never understand the voyeuristic narcissism of the reality show participants or the gullibility of those who watch them.
That said, I've watched a few of the Fishing/Logging/Trucking shows. They do have some redeeming value in that they show Americans actually doing something productive.
However they are still for the most part a venue for the drama queens of those fields.
Too bad you didn’t have a real response......to anything that I posted.
Well I do have one question on the homeschooling....how the heck is she going to get her school work done when she is out sailing all year. Something stinks in this story. You must admit the parents were neglecting her BIG TIME. I am all for Homeschooling as long as you HOMESCHOOL!!!!! Don’t even tell me that being on the open sea is learning. Please that is insane. They could have at least sent a tutor with her so she could complete her junior year of high school.
Excellent title. I concur.
Yeah, but that kind of screws up the whole "SOLO" thing.
When I was 14 I was taken deep into the woods in the middle of the night, and sent off the pathway, told to go deeper into the woods, and stay for the night. Then, next morning, It was up to me to find my way back.
Having my mommy or daddy come with me was not an option.
“Someone ‘ready’ would be able to sail around the world without daddy on speed dial for when the engine breaks.”
I know people who play the blue water racing game - and win. Trust me when I say that when failures occur, data from any and all sources is welcome.
Specifically, why should she not have called home instead of trying to download repair data?
Whoraldo just looks bad, period.
He never got near enough criticism for his "Capone's Vault" fraud.
I've been informed by freepers that she could have had a concussion ANYWHERE, and what's the big deal about letting an immature insulated 16 year old child navigate the Indian Ocean in the stormiest winter conditions -- so that her dad can sign a contract with a reality show.
I want to know what cable channel that reality show is on, and who the advertisers are.
