Etheridge apologizes for confrontation caught on video

Rep. Bob Etheridge (D-N.C.) on Monday apologized for behaving aggressively during a confrontation on the street with a young man who claimed to be a student.

"I deeply and profoundly regret my reaction and I apologize to all involved," he said in a statement released by his office.

A video of the incident, in which Etheridge can be seen swatting at a camera and grabbing the young man by the coat collar, appeared online Monday morning.

"Throughout my many years of service to the people of North Carolina," Etheridge said, "I have always tried to treat people from all viewpoints with respect. No matter how intrusive and partisan our politics can become, this does not justify a poor response. I have and I will always work to promote a civil public discourse."

You are way forgiving. Hope you’re on the jury if I ever get tried.

I’ve made too many of my own mistakes to hold a lot of grudges.

“Pretty sincere apology. Can’t ask for much more than that.”

Sure we can.

Let’s start with censure for his outrageous conduct. Then, let’s do criminal prosecution. Then, let’s see him lose his seat. And we’ll follow up with him getting sued.

Actions have consequences.

We can simply ask that he be treated the same as any other Joe that did the same thing.

Equality under the law.

We have NO RULING CLASS.

Great! If I rob a bank, and the police drop by to ask questions, all I have to do it apologize and they will go away.

If you're a democrat, then yes ...

Cong. Bob Etheridge (D-NC02): “It’s a sad state of affairs in this country that things have gotten so out of hand that unfortunate and regrettable responses to Teabaggers and violent people of that ilk could have impacted people in such a way that someone (usually, someone on the fringe of the hateful, gun-hugging right wing) might be offended mildly, but provoked to violent action, by this alleged act that I may or may not have had either some knowledge or involvement with.”

Besides, why should he apologize for a Republican Hatchet Job?

Typical thug democrat.

That was a criminal assault....he should be arrested and prosecuted.

But criminal assault (along with many other crimes by politicians) is ok if you’re a democrat. Not a single democrat in the HOR is calling for an investigation in to this. If it was a Republican, they would already be seeking to have him expelled from congress.

Crime and corruption is ok if you’re a democrat.....

You gotta love the part near the end where he jerks the kid to him, then puts his arm around him and gives him a sort of man-hug.

lol. Definitely. At first I was just thinking what the heck is wrong with this guy? Then after a few minutes, I started to get a real kick out of him. I'm gonna have to watch the video a few more times. This guy is GREAT!

Why in the world would he apologize for what the Washington Post deemed a hug?

"I predict the Congressman will make an announcement that he is checking into rehab - the all-purpose liberal refuge for when they are caught behaving badly and can make a play for sympathy."

Which is probably where Biden will end up in 2012 when Obobo throws him under the bus!

If he couldn’t tell that he would be caught on camera when the camera was right in front of him then he’s a even bigger idiot than I thought.
