...the Texas school board has staged an intellectual coup détat, voting in changes to the school curricula based on political and religious bias rather than educational criteria.Just because their textbook committees are too lazy to do their own research doesn't mean they have to use the textbooks we decide upon.

texgal, from what I've seen other states do exactly that. They let someone else decide (from the past CA, or some very liberal state back east) and then they all decide to buy the textbooks to get some sort of discount.
That has always bothered me, because growing up in IL I knew what they were teaching wasn't really reflecting my values. But hey, I was a kid, so went along and studied and passed the tests.
I think this is a great development as far as teaching what the majority of us want our kids to learn. Values, some religious background behind the founders, etc. You Texans can make a difference in the future!
