The San Antonio Express News has been doing a good job with reporting on this

http://www.mysanantonio.com/news/local_news/Haven_for_Hope.html

Many stories are “feel good” reports. But many more are pointing out the truth of this hundred million dollar facility.

I think they should install sound walls on both sides of tracks throughout Texas, so the homeless can get a good nights sleep.

It should only cost the tax payers 5 zillion dollars.

When I lived in a railroad town in East Texas one of the city’s biggest homeless shelters was right next to the railroad tracks. The homeless in that town appreciated the location because it was where the trains slowed as they neared the station. As such, it permitted access to free (if irregular) transportation.

Of course we didn’t call the place “Haven for Hope.” We called it a hobo jungle.

Fortunately a Scout seeking his Eagle made his Eagle project clearing away the brush and trash at that location. It took a lot of work, but once the cover was gone the homeless moved on. That is what I call community service. The city has kept the area swept since then. Not sure where the homeless went. Maybe they hopped a freight to San Antonio.

Oh yeah, and the minute they stop blowing the horns and hit some homeless person you can bet someone will sue over the fact that they should have been using their horns! Ridiculous.

I grewup listening to air hammers at night at the Dana Corporation in Toledo, Ohio, one block over from us. I had a lot of sleepless nights when I moved.

If they are “homeless” move. It is not like they have a lot to pack.

I am not 100% sure but I believe there are laws mandating when and where they use the horn. It is a safety feature to alert people they are approaching a crossing.

I have lived (and slept) next to a switch engine yard. For the first few nights it was difficult to sleep, after that I slept well. Oh, did I mention this was a house my parents paid for with their own money! Even our street people have become wusses.

Been there, done that, got the tee shirt and wore it out.

Nothing like the 03 right under the wires. If I remember correctly, around frame 160-185. Ahhh. Sleep!

On CV-41, the 03 was ON the flight deck, so would be 02 on that ol' gal. But either way, when you're dog tired from working, doesn't matter where you are. You sleep. Must be a medical condition of being homeless and unemployed.

A policy of “Shoot the Homeless” would make more sense.

At first I thought you were severe.

Then I remembered visiting SF a few times. I understand.

Pass out earplugs. Also, start mandatory exercise. Tired people will sleep better.

This would be funny if it was so pathetic! They tore up the train track near me, to widen I-10, I miss hearing the train.

If there is a wreck due to the train not whistling, then think of all the ambulance and police sirens that will be going off. My mother always said “there is no rest for the weary” or was it “wicked” can’t remember.

Beggars shouldn’t be making demands. They don’t like it? theyt can go elsewhere. My Grandparents had a house that backed up next to a train line. A couple of trains would go through every night. With the house less than 50 feet away from the tracks, even sleeping in the basement bedroom, took a while to get used to the trains, for a child, and I’m sure it was no different for an adult. but it sure was better than being homeless during the Great Depression to raise a family in.

Go to sleep you weary hobo
Let the towns drift slowly by
Can’t you hear the steel rail humming
That’s a hobo’s lullaby

Do not think about tomorrow
Let tomorrow come and go
Tonight you’re in a nice warm boxcar
Safe from all the wind and snow

I know the police cause you trouble
They cause trouble everywhere
But when you die and go to heaven
You won’t find no policemen there

I know your clothes are torn and ragged
And your hair is turning grey
Lift your head and smile at trouble
You’ll find happiness some day

So go to sleep you weary hobo
Let the towns drift slowly by
Don’t you feel the steel rail humming
That’s a hobo’s lullaby
