You’ve Got to Be Kidding, Mr. President
RS RedState ^ | June 18, 2010 | Dan Benishek

Posted on 06/18/2010 11:01:12 AM PDT by MsLady

I am addressing this post to my fellow citizens of MI-01, fellow activists across the country, and especially to Congressional Democrats and candidates currently serving in Congress.

The word is out; Mike Allen at Politico.com had the story yesterday. This administration is going to push the Senate to pass a cap-and-trade bill this summer. Then, with the same arrogance we have seen before from this administration, they are planning on passing a final bill during the lame-duck session of Congress that follows November’s elections—elections where the people will have spoken and expressed their will regarding the type of government they want, elections that will show incumbents that the people will no longer accept irresponsible government. The writing is on the wall for incumbents from both parties: either listen to the people and only pass legislation with their consent, or suffer the consequences in November.

This president is going to try to use the lame-duck session to achieve his agenda–transformation of America into a big government juggernaut, in charge of every aspect of our lives. Passage of the cap-and-trade bill will be a blight and burden on this country. Instead of seeing economic recovery, we will sink into the morass that is Europe. Extreme green energy and climate change agendas can bankrupt nations. America does not want to go down this road; this a freight train that must be stopped.

We have to stop this administration from going forward with this plan and continuing its record of passing legislation against the will of the people through behind-closed-door tactics and political wheeling and dealing. Now is the time for everyone to stand up and say again, “Enough is Enough!”

I am setting up a Web site with a petition drive for all concerned Americans to urge the Democratic candidates to sign a pledge that says they will stand with you, the people, and not pass this cap-and-trade legislation in such an underhanded manner. This will be their opportunity to show the American people that they are truly on the side of the people, and not against them. If they do not sign this pledge and continue to pass bills against our will, then we must make it clear that the newly elected Congressional Activists who take office in January will work to repeal or refuse to fund these harmful economic monstrosities. We must do it with the health care bill, and if we have to we will do it with cap and trade. It is about time Washington understood that our activism is not going to stop. November will only be the beginning….

Join me and sign the petition at: Link to NoLameDuckTax.com. Express your concern as Americans and activists. Our government should be responsible and accountable, not arrogant and dismissive. Let’s take it back.

I remain your fellow activist, who would like to serve the people of Michigan’s 1st District as their Congressional Representative. I will be an activist Congressman, standing with this district and our great country, in espousing; “Enough is Enough!”

Difference is they are getting the results they want. They do not care that they enraged 60% of the country with zerocare. They do not care that their financial reform bill will make it harder for you and me to get credit as they hide behind the populist rhetoric of breaking up big evil banks

They did get it done...they passed 2 stimulus bills that have set us on the road to bankruptcy and rationalize their way to not paying a heavy political price thus far for it. WE are p-oed but a lot of lefists swallow the bs that they HAD to save us from bush’s mistakes.

So they are not insane. They are banking that once passed, no one will repeal it and they win even tho they lose their power for a short time.

The American people are shallow enought to vote ‘em out but then vote ‘em right back in in a couple years.

I do not see this ending well for us.

But insane? No. Devious, evil, corrupt and slimey? Oh hail yeah.

True. We need to get back bone. The Republican party is trying to block all the conservatives it can.

Don’t let them. Aputation is the only way to get rid of the scum.

Did the founding fathers not consider some corrupt congress in the future would try this trick?

I don't know, but perhaps they didn't envision such evil, America-hating people in charge.

If they do this and the Republican have won control of at least the House then they all need to be arrested and tried for treason.

This talk of "doing something after the people have spoken" is silly.

The people spoke (idiotically) in Nov 2008. The congressional terms run 2 years, including the "lame duck" session.

If they continue to carry out the foolish demands of the American people for those full two years, then so be it.

Does anyone think that if we win back the Congress that "our guys" will work as hard for our agenda during the regular term as theirs did during the lame duck session?

Doubtful.

“They” do not fear us. Obama is unabashedly unafraid of November, which should give us all pause about what is coming between now and then, while they count on us to loll away the summer like dunces counting entirely too much on November! This administration is depending on us to underestimate them, and content ourselves with just grumbling and dreaming of November while they clean our clocks. We remain apathetic for five more months at our own peril, and need a dose of overwhelming force on at least one issue at a time, if not all issues. Face it, we are leaderless but for ourselves. An effective republican can’t be found right now. They are all concentrating on establishment re-elections and have lost their voice, only occasionally peeping out some small objection against some small part of a giant catastrophe.

I think that this so-called "Lame Duck Congress" is one we will be stuck with for a long time, unless corrective measures are implemented in the proper manner by The People.

We are running out of time, and options. We are getting really close to the time when we as a nation must fish or cut bait.

CA....

I’ll have to agree about many of the American people. They are like trees in the wind, no backbone, not grounded in anything but, the moment. They bend whatever way the wind blows.

The philosophy of many on the left is that it is better to pass unpopular legislation for "the good of the nation" despite the fact the majority may be opposed to it.

The few know what is best for the many.

If enacted by this congress, cap and tax would be an economic train wreck for America and a political disaster for the democrats.

He’s getting badly unbalanced advice from liberal scientists in academia and scientists in government-funded labs who are only telling him one side of the global warming debate. I also think Obama has spent his entire life around radical left-wing people and he’s just in a habit of listening to them and not listening to people in the private sector, who are generally more rational and reasonable than academics.

A sure sign of arrogance, elitism and narrow mindedness. Some of what he’s said makes me think of a juvenile. Kicking someone’s a**, all weewee’d up. Doesn’t take to much brain power to think up those kinds of things.

That’s a big problem with the leftists. They suffer from a delusion that they are smarter and know more than everyone else. The only way to deal with that delusion is to defeat them in elections.

If cap and tax is passed, I have no doubt that American corporations will respond to it by closing hundreds of chemical plants, refineries, and other manufacturing facilities and moving them overseas, mainly to Asia. I would bet that right now dozens of US corporations are making contingency plans for a massive closure and relocation of refineries and manufacturing facilities. Most of these facilities would be moved into Asian countries such as Singapore, South Korea, Malaysia, Taiwan, and China. Some facilities would be moved to Mexico or South America. The end result would be a massive loss of jobs and tax revenue in America and an unemployment rate of at least 15%, even when counting some offsetting gains in alternative energy industries. And ironically there would also be NO reduction in total global CO2 emissions, only a transfer of CO2 emissions from America to other nations. Other countries would just laugh at the dumb Americans who sent their refineries, factories, and jobs overseas to them.

The whole cap and tax concept has the stench of totally unnecessary, unworkable, and economically destructive legislation devised by liberal lawyers in Washington. The only people who would profit from cap and tax are, of course, lawyers and government regulators.

I am not absolutely certain what they are , but I have been told that there are limitations on the type of bills that can be passed in lame duck sessions. Possibly appropriations and emergency bills only.

It ought to be researched to be sure before people fly off the handle on this.

Your right. But, I have to say, they don’t seem to give a rats patotie what the people think, what the constitution says, or what the law says. There pretty much doing what they want to.

It will be repealed -- one way or another. And will not be enforceable due to court action in the meantime.
