New Mexico v. Val Kilmer: Payback Time
wsj ^ | June 21, 2010 | STEPHANIE SIMON

Posted on 06/21/2010 3:24:50 PM PDT by I still care

Bygones are not always bygone amid the limestone cliffs and piñon groves of northern New Mexico.

When actor Val Kilmer recently applied for permits to turn his 6,000-acre ranch outside Santa Fe into an upscale bed-and-breakfast, several of his neighbors protested.

Alleged trash talk is holding up a permit Val Kilmer wants for his ranch.

They weren't worried about traffic or noise or the prospect of intruding tourists. They were incensed about comments attributed to Mr. Kilmer in magazine articles dating to 2003 and 2005. And they didn't want him to get his way on the ranch unless he apologized.

"That's all he has to do, come and apologize," said Jose Garcia, who runs horses on a 50-acre ranch next to Mr. Kilmer's. "We're not intimidated by him."

It’s just a little etiquette lesson from the people that create the lovely local culture that he wants to make money off of. He’s getting some schooling.

I didn't even know who Val Kilmer was until I Googled him. Turns out he was one of the pilots in Top Gun with Tom Cruise. I remember him as being tall (although I'm tall standing next to Cruise) , thin and very good looking guy. Wow has he let it go. Now we all age and none of us look at good as we did at 25, but the difference with this guy is striking. Maybe he's one of those guys who won't go under the knife. I admire that. Anyway I could care less about his problems in New Mexico. I need at least one frivolous post a day and this is it.

To me its about the elite making a ton of money off “the little people” and at the same time holding them in scorn.

If it wasn’t for plain folk (the type that like to see movies like Top Gun) he would be working in an office somewhere.

I’ll agree with you that his right to conduct business shouldn’t have anything to do with what people think. But remember, he probably voted for the type of people who made these zoning laws. I wouldn’t have.

I liked him in the movies Salton Sea and Red Planet.

I hate him in real life.

Top Secret! was good if you like cows singing ‘Ach, Du Lieber Augustine’. With phoney moving lips like from the ‘50s.

Skeet Surfin’...
Skeet Surfin’...
If everybody had a 12 gauge
With a sufboard too.
You see em shootin and surfin’
From here to Malibu.
Because it’s totally bitchin’
Ridin waves and blastin’ pigeons.
And its a’ neat shootin’ skeet when youre ridin’ on the heavies all day.

First Wave (shoot shoot) Don’t get tired. Second Wave (shoot shoot) Aim higher. Third Wave (shoot shoot) Pull it and fire.
Skeet Surfin’ (it’s all right)

Waxin’ down our surfboards
And loadin’ up our traps.
Tell the teacher we’re shootin’
And never comin’ back.

I’ve got a gun rack in my Chevy
For when the surf and the flak get heavy.
And we’ll have fun with our guns until the lifeguard takes our ammo away.

First wave (shoot shoot)
Don’t get tired.
Second Wave (shoot shoot)
Aim higher.
Third Wave (shoot shoot)
Pull it and fire.

Skeet Surfin’ (it’s all right)

First Wave (shoot shoot)
Man what a ‘natch.
Second Wave (shoot shoot)
Pullin’ that trap.
Third Wave (shoot shoot)
How was that?

Sharing sunsets with my favorite girl,
When we shoot the curl we really shoot the curl.

First wave (shoot shoot)
Don’t get tired.
Second Wave (shoot shoot)
Aim higher.
Third Wave (shoot shoot)
Pull it and fire.

Skeet Surfin’

First Wave (shoot shoot)
Man what a ‘natch.
Second Wave (shoot shoot)
Pullin’ that trap.
Third Wave Wave (shoot shoot)
How was that?

I wish they all could be double-barrel,
Wish they all could be double barrel guns.

Skeet surfin’ can’t you see?
Do you wanna come along with me?
