McChrystal denies offering to resign
MSNBC ^ | June 23, 2010 | Staff

WASHINGTON - At a precarious moment in the war in Afghanistan, President Barack Obama prepared to hear his top war commander explain biting published complaints about the commander in chief and his aides. Even before their showdown, the White House's rebuke of Gen. Stanley McChrystal suggested it would be hard for him to save his job.

Ahead of his meeting with the president, McChrystal arrived at the Pentagon for meetings, including once scheduled with Defense Secretary Robert Gates.

On his arrival, he denied to NBC News that he's offered his resignation. "Come on, you know better than that. No!"

The way the press is playing this you’d think General McChrystal had slapped a soldier with PTSD.

The general’s response could be interpreted not as a denial of the resignation being submitted, but as “I can’t answer that question; you know better than to try to discuss it with me, and, no, I’m not going to discuss it”

I’m curious. What did the General specifically say that would be considered open criticism? Read the article carefully: most of it was quotes from his staff and conjecture by the author.

"Apparently, the resignation announcement was designed to push McChrystal into doing so."

Have you considered the possibility that the resignation announcement was a leak from the McChrystal camp, and McChrystal is keeping BO off-balance?

“The General did vote for BO...”

Are we really certain of that? Did someone witness him marking his ballot? Has he, not his staff, actually stated that?

From a military retirement standpoint, is it better to resign than to be fired? Do they still have the temporary ranks/permanent ranks in the officer corp?

I hope Obeeee fires McChystal. But he may keep him because he can blame him if the mission doesn't work. If the General is gone, Obeee will get all the blame.

I fear for our troops. This spitball war is the biggest joke in all of history. Fight to win only.

I actually give Obama some latitude either way on this

You may if you wish. But of course Obama will fire him. He deserves no credit for that. Even he can figure that out. To do otherwise gets him nothing politically from the Left or Right. He will fire McChrystal because McChrystal has intentionally forced him to do so. He has concluded that this is the best way to serve his troops and his country.

Twenty-two senior U.S. officials have been summoned to the White House situation room for a "private" meeting slated to begin in late morning and to run slightly pass 1:15 this afternoon.

Hu-what?

Now why is little Timmy Geitner in that meeting? That makes no sense!! But then again, this is an Obama meeting. Notice how everyone that is criticized in the article is on the meeting list? Yes, it should be a very interesting meeting indeed. I would be interested to know if Patreous would stick up for him staying while denouncing his actions.

In this case, almost certainly yes.

Joe Klein delivered the message Obama wanted.

Hence the term, state run media. When was the last time the Obama loving media did their real job? At any rate, looks like McChrystal is ready for a head-on with the Blamer in Chief.

Senate energy meeting with Obama postponed
The Hill ^ | June 22, 2010 | Ben Geman

A planned meeting Wednesday between President Barack Obama and a bipartisan group of senators to discuss energy policy has been postponed, according to White House and Senate aides.

A White House official said the meeting was postponed for scheduling reasons and would take place early next week.

The official did not provide details about the reason the energy meeting was postponed.

But Obama’s Wednesday schedule was altered to accommodate his planned meeting with Gen. Stanley McChrystal, the military’s top commander in Afghanistan.

The only thing attributable to McChrystal was his reflection of their first meeting where he stated that O’bummer was ill prepared and seemed intimidated by the military brass.

The truth hurts.
