Its always a sad day when someone you admire tremendously, who has entertained and challenged you for years lets you down and reveals themselves to really stand up only for themselves instead of the ideas of freedom they claim to support.
Reason Magazine highlights some deeply discouraging remarks from Penn Jillette, the libertarian co-host of the extraordinarily great Showtime show Penn and Tellers Bullsh*t:
Are there any groups you wont go after? We havent tackled Scientology because Showtime doesnt want us to. Maybe they have deals with individual ScientologistsIm not sure. And we havent tackled Islam because we have families.

Penn can at least afford high-level security and high-security private schools for his kids. He has no excuse for going silent on the islamonazis.
But at least he admits he’s a coward.
Most commentators and comedians who will attack Christianity daily won’t ever mention why islam’s depredations somehow escapes their attention.
Nobody epects Penn or Squantos to stand on a street corner condemning islam with a target painted on them. It’s a BS strawman argument. Penn “holds forth” from high security network buildings etc. Then he slips into an anonymous hired limo and out the underground garage and returns to one of his condos in secure buildings, or his secure walled mansion with its guards.
That’s not exactly standing on a corner with a target pinned to his chest. He could be brave when behind a camera....if he wasn’t a coward.
Agreed. You can add arrogant and immature. He can’t control his mouth, a sure sign of cowardice.
Courage - not the absence of fear, but the mastery of it.

You're on to something. In his way he just put down Islam.
He's still a big mouthed chicken, but he did do "something".
Sadly..... to many with an audience such as Penn have missed their chance to do such. I do not have a hour on prime time TV to do such as cowards on this thread think one must do or cower and agree with Penn.
Honestly, 4/5 people are the latter. It is just human nature.
Of course, that's why you need real heroes; people of valor and courage who the Lord shines on and protects.
Stuff it. I’ve risked my life plenty, and so has Squantos. Don’t feel sorry for Penn the coward, who has bodyguards and security teams around him when he speaks. So your “stand on a corner with a target on you” comparison is asinine, and makes you sound like a sniveling jerk.
If the social commentators with the microphones (and the bodyguards and high walls) are too terrified to speak against the islamist threat, then we’re finished, for that surely gives cowards like you permission to hide in the corner in silence.
I think you’re reading it wrong. It’s not “I don’t want my head chopped off because I have a family”, it’s “I have a family and I don’t want their heads chopped off”. It’s one thing to put your own but on the line, volunteering somebody else is another matter entirely.

We’ve both let it hang out for Uncle Sam and in other situations. So I guess we expect more courage from “leaders” (if TV pundits and jokers are such today).
But as was just pointed out, 4/5s of people may be cowards, as in the given example of hiding Jews from the Nazis.
And a lot of cowards are just looking for someone as an example of a well-placed coward, who will say, “There there, it’s okay to be a coward. Look at me, I am!”
They even hang out on FR. Shame.
You would enjoy reading Richard Gabriel’s Mohamed: Islam’s First Great General.
Gabriel surmises with some substantial insight that Mohamed suffered from chronic malaria.
Check it out.
When was that, exactly? Last year? I think not.
PS: Reagan took a bullet, but he still wasn’t cowed into cowardice.
What’s your excuse? Take a bullet too many?
Their studio, like all TV studios, really isn’t that secure. And they also have the magic show, which anybody can attend, and they tend to hang out after the show and chat with fans, and his home isn’t that secure either. I think you think they made a lot more money than they did.
Actually it would exactly be standing on a corner with a target pinned on his chest. Much more anonymous people than him have been killed.
No with all due respect I read it as.......not risking Penn’s family but same standard for US servicemen and woman’s families to be at risk per se. Americans who don’t try and do whats right annoy me .....
Hope yer well....
