Germany humiliate old foes England [4-1]

Germany's thrilling strike force tore apart old rivals England to reach the World Cup quarter-finals on Sunday in a 4-1 win marked by an extraordinary blunder from the Uruguayan referee who ruled out a good goal.

- In an incident-packed game at Bloemfontein's Free State Stadium, Miroslav Klose and Lukas Podolski took advantage of some shambolic defending by the Three Lions to put Germany 2-0 up after 32 minutes before Matthew Upson headed one back

Minutes later, a shot by England's Frank Lampard went over the goalkeeper, hit the bar and bounced behind the goal-line.

But neither referee Jorge Larrionda nor his assistants saw the goal, and waved play on.

The sense of injustice burning among England's legions of passionate fans dimmed, however, when Thomas Mueller scored two in quick succession in the second half.

Your response is prejudiced by your support of the German team. I have made no mention that I was sorry England lost,in fact still believe they were the weaker team. You are either on purpose ignoring or did not understand what I said about offside goals, goals gained from questionable fouls in the box, etc, goals like Argentina's goal against Mexico. Someone still has to score in a situation like that and you have to expect bad calls in all sports. I would not expect Argentina to let Mexico score or ask the officials to take down the score because of an offside that was missed. The player may still have missed or the goalie made the save.

What I am talking about here, has nothing to do with goals scored because of a bad call, a missed call. This was a clear goal, with no questionable call being involved. Germany at half-time knew the score should be 2-2.

There are no inherent rules that forbid a player or team from righting a wrong. I have seen many instances in sports both amateur and professional where clearly a wrong was righted by the player/team who benefited.

And I know you think I am asking the Germans to do something that no-one else in the world would have done. That's the real point, there is little decency left in sports and the world.

It would have been a great gesture of sportsmanship for the Germans to either let England score or demand the officials award the goal to England before the second half started. In fairness to the German players their fans and the majority of the world would have berated them for it. But there's no denying it would have made a real statement about sportsmanship above winning at all costs, taking a goal away because that's what the ref called.

To suggest I am a bad sportsman, that I favor England over Mexico is insane. I don't care what team it happened to, if the very same thing happens to Germany in the next game, I would love to see Argentina right the wrong.

Diego Maradona brushed aside controversy over Argentina's opening goal in their 3-1 victory over Mexico by claiming referees are overlooking "scandalous" treatment of Lionel Messi.

I have never rooted as hard for any result, as for Germany to totally destroy Argentina. I want them and their commie coach humiliated. I have nothing against Messi, I like him with Barca, but I don't want to see that punk coach on the sidelines anymore.

Firstly, Tom Lehman’s fake religiousity used for sport was criticised, not his faith. Big difference.

Secondly, I can only assume youve never been to Britain, as your ideas of what we think are utterly laughable.

The British people arent jealous of America. Why would we be?. We are ourselves a great country with a great history, we were the world’s premier power for almost 300 years until ww2, we are still a major nation.

And the idea that 1/3 of all Britons enjoyed Sept 11th 2001 shows you werent paying attention. The British people like most were horrified by that day. Only a few vile Muslims and anti-americans rejoiced, most British people were horrified. And have you forgotten that 300 BRITISH people died in the Twin Towers?.

Your ideas of what we think are just bunkum. I welcome you to come here and meet the real British people.

Muslim pop. of the UK= 3%.

Of course, there seems to be this odd American notion that we are ‘25% Moozlim’ or something....

And?. James rightly imo attacked Lehman, who invoked God in a crude way for sport. James was attacking FAKE religiousness, not religion.

Fans rowdy?. British players families were spat on, barracked so badly Colin Montgomerie’s father took ill and had to leave, Mark James’s wife was told ‘that the British should get the f**k out of Ireland’, US fans refused to be quiet during European shots.

And British journalists made a sarcastic reference to the film The Stepford Wives because frankly all the US wives, though very pretty, looked like a clone of each other.

The American fan and even player behaviour at RC 1999 was quite frankly a disgrace. Watch the Ryder Cup at the Belfry three years later to see how a golf crowd SHOULD behave...

Maradona is an ass and I hope Germany sends these egomaniacs packing. Two wrongs do not make a right. Just another indication of my central point in all this - there is little honor or decency left in sports today. Maradona thinks because one of his star players isn't getting the calls, then a clear offside goal is okay ? He should be saying “Offside goals have always happened and the refs makes mistakes.. I also believe the refs are not calling all the fouls that Messi is encountering and wish they would call what I see as clear infractions"..

And no need for lawyers, all I'm asking at any level, any sport, is for the players or officials to right a clear wrong where there is no controversy, no judgment call involved.

I think this paddy guy must be a troll or he has some deep rooted problems with Americas best ally

he supports Germany over the Uk because the Uk is wet and cold, but forget so is Germany and Ireland, Ireland even more so.
Then says he thinks the germans should have won the war.
Then says he has distrust over the English because of 9/11
then says about the arabs in the Uk which is smaller than America’s population.
then says about the golf in 99.

he seems to be able not to get why he hates the Uk and is looking for a reason, plus on top of that why bring about the Germans winning the war into a football game .

Thinking the NAZIS would be better for Europe is not only stupid but ignorant.

This 3% of muslims in Britain is quite small compared to many countries and one would think that the Uk is getting taken over by them

Germany is colder in the north part , trust me I have been there on deployment.
It is also wet and cold just like the UK.

I take it too you do not know that the Uk has palm trees in the south, they get the gulf stream and have nice beaches in the south.

Every post you have wrote has been so wrong and based on nothing.

You saying you think it might have been better for Germany to have won the war is disgusting.
That time is was NAZI Germany, a group who was killing people on mass and after they had finished with all the Jews who was next, the poles, The Russians , who???

So do you support the NAZIS winning then ? Because that is what you said.

You support Germany I couldn’t give a crap but to come out with dumb comments like you have shows you up

LOL, I got based down in the south for 5 years, one in folkstone and the other near salisbury plain.
So I got to know the south part quite good.
Loved Germany in Hamburg and Hanover but I was amazed to see the amount of Turks they have there.
We got into a run in with some of them who had knives until the cops came and broke it up.
The Germans there told us to beware of them and their knives and we heeded their warning..

I love the south west part of the Uk, always warmer, more like old England to be honest, Lands end , cornwall, Devon, etc

It is my understanding that Tom Lehman is one of the most genuinely decent, true-believers there is. The man walks-the-walk, and to say that he comes to his religion only when he's over a putt, is probably the worst insult one could give a Christian. No, since most secular Euros don't understand Christianity, it must be fake, and made fun of. Mr. James pulled his insults straight out of the hate-America handbook, and we saw the same attacks on George W. Bush for 8 long years. The attacks against Lehman sound like they came from the script of the move W, or vice-versa. I actually think the Stepford Wives thing was kind of funny, but I remember thinking these Euro’s harbor something more against Americans, there's no getting around it.

“Germany is colder in the north part”
You’re brilliant. It’s muggy in Houston! Please alert the media, and thank you Colonel Obvious. I said we’d be better off if the bloody Germans had won the war. See, I said bloody because I was talking about England and it was a joke. I think you can make the point that because America had so many America-loving German-Americans, it probably tipped the scales in the allies favor. There can be little doubt that people of German heritage tend to be better organized, more diciplined, more loyal, and more willing to follow orders then others. Think Eisenhower! I’ll say it again that having 50 million Americans of German ancestry is probably the reason they’re still speaking the Queens in London, and Churchill is not buried in Canada! Look it up.

You are correct, how you play a 2-2 game is different than how you play a 2-1 game in the knock out phase of a tournament. With out going back and watching the game, it seemed England got caught in transition which often occurs when a team is pushing up to get a goal.

That said, I thought Germany played better, held their shape very well. Also, Ashley Cole and John Terry did not play that well.

What we will never know is how England would have played with a 2-2 tie at the half. Germany can never complain again. Now all we need is for Argentina to be eliminated over a goal scored by a handball and the world will be back in balance.

You would think that at a minimum in a tournament this big they would add extra line judges. I do not care what happened in the group stage, but in the knockout phase have an additional line judge watching the goals.

german Americans tend to be better organized.

Again read what you wrote, I bet you have not been to England, not been to Germany, know less than a handful of Germans or English, so do us all a favor, get a grip of yourself and sort your hateful mind out.

Wanting Germany to win the war is the same as saying you wanted the NAZIS.

Look what up,?
That if 50 mil Germans had not moved to America there would be people in England now speaking German and the UK and America would have lost the war. Along with Chruchill would be buried in Canada.
What on earth history have you been looking?

You know what , just read your pathetic posts, everyone of them on this subject.
You jumped in on a soccer/football thread talking about a war which had nothing, I repeat NOTHING TO DO WITH THE GAME .
You then tried to reason your stupid NAZI win the war post to that by saying you supported germany because the UK is cold and wet but so is Germany which you did not seem to know or that the Uk has palm trees and the gulf stream on her southern coast.
Then you said you mistrusted the Brits because of 9/11 even though they had and have helped us in 3 wars, given their lives unlike most of Europe and Ireland, They were the first to help us out after 9/11 and has always been there for us.
You then changed you view to that of , well they said things and treated us badly in golf back in 99 but ignored how it was done to them by us too.

So read all of your posts and get a grip before you actually post again and I will ask you again, would you have wanted to see NAZI Germany win the war against us and the Uk?

simple question and a yes or not will suffice

‘Mr. James pulled his insults straight out of the hate-America handbook...’

You see, thats the kind of hysterical hyperbole that I am talking about. Firstly, a criticism of one American individual becomes an attack not only on American religion but America itself.

Secondly, as per usual, such nonsense ignores the individual who is alleged to be the ‘hater’. In this case, anyone with even a passing knowledge of golf knows Mark James to have been a golfer and man who was and is very fond of America and American golf and American golf fans. Which is probably why the vitriol he and his wife and his team that day were so appalled at the yahoo behaviour at Brookline.

I notice, btw, that one sarcastic comment about Tom Lehman seems to offend you more than the verbal abuse, spitting, attacks on women and old men, insults of Britain, and the general boorish and appalling behaviour of many fellow Americans on that day....
