What do you think of this world cup as whole compared to others ?
I don’t think it is as a success as previous ones like in Germany.
Empty seats, bad atmosphere, there has been some trouble but of course it was not England so hardly anything gets said, the segregation looks awful and while there has been some decent games others have been woeful.
Personally I don’t think it should have been held in south Africa , if they wanted it in Africa which we know FIFA did then why not have to in the north part of Africa.
I think they knew they eventually had to award it to Africa, and perhaps the thought was to give it to South Africa, before it goes the way of Zimbabwe, so they might as well get it out of the way, since this one couldn’t be in Europe.
It’s a shame really, because many more Americans were interested in the WC over even 2006, but it may set things back here in this country because of the things like the Vuvuzelas and the bad officiating. It was a missed opportunity.
Hopefully the Brazilians will put on a good show in 2014, and at least here in North America, the games will be on in Prime Time for a change.
Well I guess this is where we will have to agree to disagree. There is a playbook out there when it comes to America. Euros go to that playbook whenever they feel outsmarted or outworked by the Americans. BTW, you’ve not once corrected my that Scotland and England are not in Europe, strange.
Silly us, we expected/expect Americans to win with the dignity and grace and friendliness we ascribe to them.
Sorry, but your ideas of what 60m Brits ‘think of America’ is clearly the idea of someone who has never been here. So again, I suggest, implore and invite you to actually visit here and challenge your own preconceptions.
And we are and we are not in Europe: politically yes, culturally yes, but at a remove. The Irish the same.

I am even thinking about Euro 2012, to finally visit the ancestral homeland.
I followed the 2008 tournament, and part of me actually prefers it to the WC. Plus I can root for Poland with no hesitation, unlike in 2002 when the US played them in the WC. I just hope they have a decent squad by then, they’ve got a lot of work to do.

This is almost exactly what I am talking about. Leicaster knew when the game was replayed, the score should be 1-0 Nottingham, so they made it 1-0. Germany just as easily could have made it 2-2. And the Carling Cup, which I assume is a championship, was at stake.
