Turkey has closed its airspace to Israeli military flights following a deadly raid on a Gaza-bound aid ship, the Turkish prime minister and officials said Monday.
Recep Tayyip Erdogan told reporters in Toronto that Turkey imposed the ban after the May 31 raid on a Turkish ship that was part of a six-vessel international aid flotilla, according to the state-run Anatolia news agency. The prime minister, who is in Canada to attend a summit of the Group of 20 major industrial and developing nations, did not elaborate.
On Sunday, Israel's Yediot Ahronot newspaper reported that Turkey had not allowed a plane carrying Israeli military officers, en route to a tour of memorial sites in Auschwitz, Poland, to fly over Turkish airspace.
The transport plane, with more than 100 commissioned and noncommissioned officers on board, was forced to make a detour, the paper said.
The Israeli military "refrained from responding officially to the event so not to exacerbate the rift in relations," the newspaper added.
A Turkish government official said the ban was for Israeli military flights and that commercial flights were not affected. It was not a blanket ban and each flight request would be assessed case-by-case, the official added. The official spoke on condition of anonymity, in line with government rules that bar officials from speaking to journalists without prior authorization.
The Israeli prime minister's office had no comment on Erdogan's statements.

In all seriousness, this probably is what was planned from the beginning, and the flotilla was just a calculated excuse to close the airspace. The Turks were surely nervous about confronting Iran, and poked Israel to get some nice alibi to not get involved. The saber rattling matches quite well.
Iran is the top in that relationship.

What a sad, so typical in today's World, Western response to Islam.
Turkey won't allow Israeli soldiers to just fly over their nation on the way to a memorial at Auschwitz. Standard Islamic a**hole behavior even where for decades Israel did everything and anything to prove its friendship to Turkey.
But hey, we can't call them on their a**hole behavior because that might "exacerbate the rift" and they will be, what, even bigger a**holes.
Today, Turkey is again mentally and morally sick although this time it's because the country is under the control of militant Islamists. Today, Turkey, once again, is a danger to the world.
Europe, itself, has been sick for a long time. Twice, our country has had to step in to save it from pugnacious militarism, fascism and communism.
Today, due to the rampant socialism and economic meltdown forced on us under the iron rule of the Obama administration, the U.S. is rapidly become the "sick man of North America". We are unable to do much either morally, militarily or economically to stem the combined aggressive alliances of Islam such as that today between Turkey and Iran.
Obama, his addlepated secretary of state, his pro-Islam state department, and his red-tinged cabinet, ambassadors, czars and administration have the ability to only mouth slick but ineffective words regarding the Middle East crisis.
The U.S. as a country, is now too "sick" to do anything about anything, except watch the gathering war storms on the horizon......and feebly sit by as its citizenry desperately prays for a new doctor and staff to arrive on the scene to resuscitate it.

The Turks can’t stop a one off Israeli overflight. They do not have the ability.
