Rand Paul Won’t Say How Old the Earth Is
Charles Johnson
The Lizard Annex 6-28-2010

From PageOneKentucky.com, here’s a video of GOP candidate Rand Paul addressing a convention of Christian homeschoolers, and dodging a question about the age of the Earth.

The questions asked by the homeschoolers in the video: 1) are you a Christian, 2) how old is the Earth, and 3) will you let the UN take our children. Yep, really. And these are the teachers asking these questions. They’re raising a generation of kids who are ignorant anti-science fanatics, afraid that the United Nations is going to come and kidnap them. Good grief.

Did he dodge the question because he’s a creationist and he knows that he shouldn’t reveal it for political reasons, or because he’s not a creationist and he knows he shouldn’t reveal it for political reasons? Either way, this is very sleazy behavior.

My opinion: I think he probably is a creationist, just like his father Ron Paul, because his world view matches the creationist world view in every respect.

Derisive name calling - is that way of the Lord?

The Fool hath said in his heart, there is no God.

Rand Paul is not a creationist? Wow, his stock just went up several points in my estimation. I would have voted for him anyway but his refusal to succumb to superstition seals the deal. Good on him.

Matthew 12:34 (New International Version)

34You brood of vipers, how can you who are evil say anything good? For out of the overflow of the heart the mouth speaks. ...

Jesus used some pretty derisive terms for His detractors and pretenders, too!

Johnson’s a kook.

Not worth my time.

He lost it, all normal people left his site, end of story.

Now he hates creationists and pretty much anything conservative.

Creationists are not generally known for being Pro-Abortion, or Anti-Gun. Just doesn't "go with the territory".

So, to me, this is reassuring. But, no, it's not a subject for Senate action.

ALL VETS ARE OFF

Can't speak for "all" but I'm about 3-5 degrees askew of plumb as near as I can figure. And that's when I'm standing in the shade. ;-)

Ah, I get it now. People who believe in evolution are evil vipers.

Actually, the point of the article is Rand Paul's refusal to endorse Evolutionism.

I'm proud to have been banned by CJ. His site used to welcome conservatives, now he declares anybody to the right of Pelosi to be a "bad crazy wingnut". Funny, I never seem to hear him complain about crazies on the Left...

From a scientific perspective, the answer would have to be “I don’t know, and neither do you.” Just recently, the age of the universe was adjusted by a few billion years by a respected scientist, for the third or fourth time in my memory.

Among the Creationists, those who go with personal interpretation of the Bible can come up with different answers based on personal interpretation. Those who follow an organized tradition (Catholic, Orthodox, Moslem, Jewish), no hard date is given that must be followed. I believe Pagans would mostly say, there was no creation, and so the universe always was.

So, the answer is I don’t know, and my personal opinion would not affect how I would legislate.

I didn’t mean “vets” as in “veterans”...I meant a play on the word “bet”, for the VETTING process, as when you “vet” someone, or do a background check. Sorry I didn’t make that clearer for you.

I’m concerned about redstate. If you express the opinion that 0’s eligibility is an important issue, they’ll ban you

his personal opinion regarding private beliefs has no place in public discussion when this remains a representative republic

If he was elected in a State of flesh eating zombies under the platform of fresh brains, then thats what he advocates publicly

Paul was not asked whether the universe was created or whether it evolved. He was asked how old he thinks it is.

Not everyone who thinks the universe is billions of years old is an "evolutionist" by any means.

I respect, though disagree with, Old-Earth Creationists.

But I'm not going to be offended if Rand Paul refuses to repudiate my own beliefs, y'know?
