Who's behind the deadly Greek bombings?
GlobalPost ^ | June 30, 2010 | Iason Athanasiadis

ATHENS, Greece — Greek investigators examining last week’s assassination attempt on a government minister are unraveling evidence of a network of urban guerrilla groups operating across Greece, Spain and Italy.

Europe’s international police agency, Europol, in its 2010 report noted a 43-percent increase over the past two years in what it terms “terrorist” strikes in these three countries.

In the latest attack in Greece, the minister for the protection of the citizen, Mihalis Chrysochoidis, was sitting just meters away from a bomb that blew up inside his offices last Thursday, killing his deputy.

Despite a drumroll of low-intensity terrorist attacks in recent years, this marked the gravest incident since the Greek Marxist guerrilla group 17 November was broken up by police ahead of the Athens 2004 Olympics. The granddaddy of Greek terrorist groups had been responsible for killing several Greek politicians, a CIA Athens station chief, a British military attache and a Greek former intelligence chief.

As much of western Europe concentrates its efforts on curbing Islamic extremism, analysts have identified common threads linking several of the groups operating across southern Europe, chiefly anarchism and anti-state sentiment.

So now liberal Europe is dealing with all sorts of anarchist-socialist terrorism just like Canada did during the G20. A few days ago there was a case of anarchist terrorism against a Greek police chief. What do Freepers think should happen? I'm relieved this hasn't hit America yet.

You would think in any sane place, those doing these attacks would garner less support from the public.

It’s like the jihadis. They kill innocent people and demand a tyrannical-style gov. yet they probably have MORE support from the general public than their gov. does.

And that is only because the US entitlement money is still paid. Things were fine in Greece as well, until the money ran out. This can happen here too; even the Dear Leader can't borrow forever, especially when the debt load becomes unserviceable.

I've been saying here for some time now that I just cannot believe that some new 'Red Army Faktion'/Baader-Meinhof group hasn't resurfaced in Europe or here in the USA.

Maybe we're finally seeing it, but I guess they just don't make violent left wing European college dropouts like they used to.

Perhaps they're content to do nothing more than get run over by an Israeli bulldozer or get knocked retarded by a tear gas canister to the forehead.

You'd think that with the Palestinian situation, the European economy faltering, the Iranian civil protests against the Islamic regime where 'Neda' and so many others were murdered, and the ongoing environmental disasters like the BP oil spill that left wing militant groups would be blowing up something every day and posting manifestos on the Internet... But no. Just a bank set on fire in Greece.

Obviously, the radical left wing youth either doesn't believe their own bullshit or they're way too chicken to do anything more than make snarky posts on DailyKOS and IndyMedia. Or none of them is a Chemistry major. I don't know.

Who's behind the deadly Greek bombings?

Government workers who aren't willing to be paid for 12 months of work per year, instead of the 12 + 2 imaginary ones they've grown used to being paid for.

They are the ones who torched the bank that murdered 3 workers during last months "anti-austerity" riots.

They are also upset because their pension benefits, some of the most generious in all of the EU (payouts based on their salaries the last 5 years on the job vs. their whole career).

Kaboom goes the spoiled communist brats expecting maximum payout for minimum effort.

And the feds here in this country worry about militias, and treat common everyday Americans such as that House Rep. who questions a he represents about the “Minute Men” killing people. Good grief.

Well got to remember the answer was given on Monday, the last day of the term for the USSC, it is called AMENDMENT #2. With that and with CCW allowed states around the country, the troublemakers KNOW they have to mind their p’s and q’s.

I met many, in fact, too many supporters of the Greek Socialist Party (PASOK) when I lived there, but I never met anyone who would support these assholes.

This being said, calling Greece a "sane place" is a bit strong.

Also Germany in the 1920's and 30's. As Germany's economy was tanking, the unions threatened violence and disruption if their pay did not keep up with inflation. The result was the non-union middle class got screwed to keep the unions happy (sound familiar?). The end result was their voting for the guy with the little mustache, as he was the only one around willing to oppose the Left.

The Jamestown Foundation seems to know (excerpt):

“Al-Qaeda and affiliated Islamist terrorist organizations have extended their reach to many countries in Europe, including Greece (To Bhma, April 20). The war on terrorism has turned Greece into a key entry and transit point for Islamic fundamentalist networks.”

Can it be that the socialists are disappointed with the paradises they’ve set up in Europe?

I’d be more worried about socialist anarchists then jihadis. At least the jihadis dont have community support in Greece when the anarchist socialists do.

LOL thats what socialism is. people ask for it then once it fails they demand even more of it. The results of years of liberal brainwashing.

Watch Greece fall into a socialist-fascist state. That’s what happens when you overspend. Take note 0bama.
