You'll have to take that up with the Brits. To them, "Asian" has always meant people from the continent of Asia. I'm not suggesting the Brits are right or wrong. I was just addressing what appeared to be an implication that there was an intentionally deceptive use of the term asian...and I was indicating that in the Brit mind parts of the middle east is asia.
I don't see that we disagree on any point here.

I don't see that we disagree on any point here. I didn't think we were disagreeing; I thought we were discussing.
But, I do now feel compelled to point out that...
and I was indicating that in the Brit mind parts of the middle east is asia.
Parts of the Middle East are in Asia. I'm in the Middle East. I am also on the Asian continent.

Notice how carefully the story avoids the truth, though? Shes Asian? (we dont say Arab anymore?) She's not an Arab at all.
Why would she be called an Arab?
Her family comes from Bengal in India and in the UK, Indians, Pakistanis and Bangladeshis are called "Asians" - which makes sense, since all those countries are in Asia.

I've seen all the movies. She didn't flub her lines, but is pretty forgettable. All the Potter films are done in Britain, as Rowling insisted on this. All the actors and actresses are English, also at her insistence.
One of the frequent comments is that the child (now late teens and early twenties) actors and actresses in the Harry Potter movies avoided the typical drug and psychological problems common to teen actors and actresses because they were in Britain, away from the craziness of Hollywood.
In any event, Harry Potter was her bread and butter, and only claim to fame. I don't think she has the thespian or anatomic characteristics to move beyond being a background actress who has three lines and stands in the crowd scenes.
I also remember back in the mid-seventies, I knew a young lady from Iran. This was in Austin, TX. She wouldn't tell anyone where she lived, as she feared being murdered by radical Islamists. When she told me, I laughed. She said, "They're here and they'll do it."

Interesting comparison. We read and watch the HP movies, and we think how foreign it is that there would be a cult like the deatheaters who demand obedience at the point of a sword.
But the Muslim faith is that cult, and they kill their children (mostly girls, because they are sexist pigs) as a matter of faith and practice, for not living their lives as servants to their male cult masters.

Actually, it’s Westernized Oriental Gentleman; used initially for Asians who’d come to Britain. Later, all Asians, regardless.

Posters on this thread have spent a lot of time dissecting what the term "Asian" means, but I think these geographical discussions are a distraction. The family is Muslim and threatened to kill her for dishonoring them, a classic Muslim honor killing.
Whether the press used "Asian" as a euphemism to avoid mentioning the Islamic faith may be a small point, but the bigger point is this attack happened in May and is only being reported in the briefest way possible on July 1. They didn't even report whether or not she was severely injured. This being a very prominent movie series, it seems that one of the young actresses being attacked by family members should be a big story, and I will repeat, if the family had been Catholic or Baptist, there would have been tub thumping for weeks, and it would have led all the major news networks broadcasts. The courthouse would have been inundated with reporters. Course, what do I know. The father of the young girl who played in Slumdog Millionaire tried to sell her, but that didn't seem to be big news either.

(all Muslims aren't Islamic) By definition, yes they are. Not all Arabs are Muslim, and not all Muslims are Arabs. Is that what you meant to say?

You can't make a statement like that on a website like this without explaining it.I can say anything I want as long as it's within the posted guidelines. (posing liberals do it here all of the time!)
Whether there is validity in what I say should be the only criteria and if someone wants to know if there is validity they can find out for themselves without me having to "explain" a damn thing. If, however, they demand proof, as you do now, then I would be
more than pleased to back up my words.
How about this...
Difference Between Islam and MuslimMuslim also has its roots in the s-l-m verb. It is a participle of the verb and refers to a person who engages in the act of submission, acceptance, or surrender. Therefore a Muslim is a person who submits to the will of God, or a follower of Islam.A person can "surrender" to
a follower of Islam without giving up their faith. And believe you me, there are plenty of people who have simply surrendered. That's why they are called "kafir". If I were to be captured, since I wouldn't surrender, I would be
Kufrul-Inkaar, not Kufrul-Juhood.
Islam & PeaceMuhammad used to send letters to the kings and leaders of the surrounding countries and tribes, inviting them to surrender to his authority and to believe in him as the messenger of Allah. He always ended his letters with the following two words: "Aslim, Taslam!". Although these two words are derived from the same infinitive Salama which is the root of Salam, i.e. Peace, neither one of them implies the meaning of peace. The sentence means surrender and you will be safe, or in other words, surrender or face death.A Muslim is by definition, a follower of Islam.
If that's what you believe then keep believing it.
So, before you get jumped on, you want to explain what you meant by that statement?
Have you been chosen to be the designated ID 10 T to jump me?

I know a couple guys who married into Middle Eastern families. One was married to a Lebanese Maronite girl and the other a drop dead gorgeous Persian “Houri”. Both wives were very intelligent and Hell on Wheels ball busters toward their American husbands, but man were they nice to look at.

Maybe a better way to put it is: not all Muslims are Wahabi or Shiite maniacs. By definition within the Arabic language all Muslims really are “Islamic” since the word “Muslim” means one who submits (Aslama means to submit and Islam is the imperative form of the verb). Likewise Mujahid means one who does Jihad and Mujahiddin is just the plural form for that noun. The people tend to be nuts but their language is quite logical.
