Funny thing: Brits use “Asian” for the whole continent but in practice it means:

(1) Feelgood story about success and family: Indian Hindu.
(2) Crime story full of violence: Pakistani or Indian Muslim.

This happened in May, but hasn't been reported on at all until nearly the end of June. The story is also vague on how badly she was injured.

When Theo van Gogh was killed, the press euphemistically said a note was "pinned" to the body. It wasn't a pin. It was a dagger, thrust in his body up to the hilt.

Had the same thing happened, and the family had been Catholic or Baptist, this would have been huge news. Can you imagine what TMZ, Perez Hilton, People Magazine, Time, Newsweek and the NYTimes would have been saying about the dangers of fundamentalist Christians? Muslim oil money has bought controlling interests in most of the large press organizations. Those they haven't bought are scared to say anything because Muslims will kill them.

Jimmy Carter was, in my opinion, the first US president that was bought and paid for by the Muslims. Obama, of course, is a Muslim. The fact that the press is totally ignoring a story that should be pretty high profile is proof of how much control the Muslims have of the mass media.

I believe that the misuse of “Middle East” in reference to Israel etc. derives from the stupidity and ignorance infesting most news-rooms. Some of these bozos even consider Egypt to be in the “Middle East”.

That's my point...although when most Americans think of asian they are not thinking middle east, they are thinking of China east and typically east of India.

You'll have to take that up with the Brits. To them, "Asian" has always meant people from the continent of Asia.

However, I've heard them refer to those from the Pacific rim and that region as "orientals" (yes, they still use that one) and "East Asians."
