California Republican slams Steele as 'completely out of touch' with GOP (Duncan D. Hunter)
The Hill ^ | 7/3/10 | Roxana Tiron

Rep. Duncan Hunter (R-Calif.), a former combat veteran and member of the House Armed Services Committee, on Saturday strongly condemned the statements about the war in Afghanistan made by the Republican National Chairman Michael Steele.

Hunter stopped short of calling for Steele’s resignation, but said that the “Republican party needs more than a fundraising figurehead,” Hunter said in a statement.

Steele is under intense fire for saying that the war in Afghanistan is a war of president Barack Obama’s choosing and that U.S. combat mission there is “unwinnable.” Steele has since been trying to backtrack on his statements.

"Michael Steele's irresponsible comments show him to be completely out of touch with the majority of the Republican Party,” Hunter said. "Time and again, Steele has demonstrated this disconnect. His comments were not only tactless, but showed an unfortunate level of ignorance on such a significant national security issue.”

I think Steele must have a drug problem or is a democrat plant. Or worse, just amazingly stupid.

Maybe. Like Romney, Steele backs Obama.

America will never forget that while Gov. Palin
helped the Tea Parties and fought ObamaCARE,
where was the perpetual soreloser Mitt Romney?

Why, Romney was backing Obama (again) and having his
surrogates (extreme coward that he is) attack Gov. Palin.

"Romney praises Obama
WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney praised President Obama
at a GOP fundraising dinner Wednesday ..
"I also think it's important for us to nod to the president when he's right," Romney said....
Romney, who spoke at a dinner for the National Republican Senatorial Committee,
said he's pleased with the president's plans to "finish the job" in Iraq and Afghanistan
-- lines that drew applause from the partisan audience. He also applauded the president
for standing up to the auto industry.
"I hope he continues to be tough ....The former businessman even offered faint praise for
Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner, saying that after a series of initial missteps,
"I think he's finally getting close to the right answer."

Perhaps Duncan Hunter should be in that job.

Why can’t we just point out the obvious...

Steele was hired because of his skin color, not his politics.

I think Liz Cheney would be suited for it. Neither Hunter wants it.

I think many people at one time had a decent amount of regard for him. But he has sucked as chairman of the RNC

Rep. Duncan Hunter (R-Calif.), a former combat veteran and member of the House Armed Services Committee, on Saturday strongly condemned the statements about the war in Afghanistan made by the Republican National Chairman Michael Steele.

Duncan is right on target with this criticism.

Hunter stopped short of calling for Steele’s resignation, but said that the “Republican party needs more than a fundraising figurehead,” Hunter said in a statement.

Ooops, Duncan is like most others not calling for Steele to resign.

He did call for his resignation, just not explicitly. When you say “the party needs more than a fundraising figurehead” you are saying just that.

What has to be done to get rid of this guy? Do they have to call a meeting of the RNC Members and have a special election and vote him out? If they do replace him, I'd like to see Newt in that position; he has a brilliant political mind.

Well I sure hope Congressman Hunter (the original Congressman Hunter) finds some way to engage in our party’s conversation.

He’s the only person out there, making a wit of sense about trade.

He gets it, and we really, really need someone to make it “pc” for conservatives to talk about.

Because right now, it seems the GOP is entirely, flat-out brainwashed about “free trade”.

Someone needs to wake the party up. Duncan Hunter has the guts and the understanding to do exactly that.

I hope he does.

I think there are probably some democrats annoyed at Steele’s comments considering the war in Afghanistan was started by Bush as a result of 9/11, a move which many more moderate dems felt and still feel was/is necessary. So it appears that the only Americans that Steele is in touch with is extreme lefties.

Sorry, but Steele is NOT a fundraising figurehead. He is HORRIBLE at fundraising. So, Duncan is wrong on that too!

Of course, suffice to say that I am a HUGE FAN of Duncan.

He would be ideal as the RNC chair if he wants it.

We don’t need a “brilliant political mind” in that role. We need a great fundraiser and grassroots organizer.

Bill Bennett used to have Steele as substitute host on his morning radio show, and Steele regularly shot his mouth off in the wrong direction. I learned, among other things, that he and “bro’” Eric Holder are good friends.

Well, Newt did pretty good at presiding over, and pulling off, the biggest GOP takeover of Congress, ever, in 1994. I would think that he knows how to raise funds and organize at the grassroots. But, maybe not.
