Chairman: Tea Party movement good for GOP [PA county]

Are you drinking the tea?

For the better part of the last two years, driven largely by local and national protests, the anti-tax Tea Party movement has continued to attract followers.

Many of the protests that fueled the growth heading into the 2010 midterm elections were in response to the financial bailouts of the banks and automotive industry, the federal stimulus package and the health care reform bill.

"I believe this was building through 2008," said Stephen Bloom, a Carlisle attorney and Republican nominee for the 199th Legislative District seat in the state House.

There was pent-up frustration about the direction of the government, Bloom said, explaining that the first bailout bill under President Bush was when he started to sense "a sea change."

"Government was rewarding those that failed," he said, which angered a lot of people.

CNBC Business News editor Rick Santelli simply put a name on it, Bloom noted. In February 2009, Santelli spoke out against the Homeowners Affordability and Stability Plan, the government plan to refinance mortgages, accusing the government of "promoting bad behavior," and raising the possibility of a "Chicago Tea Party."

Bloom, a strong fiscal and social conservative, has run on a platform that closely mirrors the Tea Party mantra of cutting taxes and the scope of government, while protecting our individual freedoms as Americans.

His message, which can be compared to those of several victorious Republican Tea Party-backed candidates across the country - many in federal races - is one that is clearly resonating among voters.

"To me, one of the really exciting things is that Americans are rediscovering and rereading our founders," Bloom said.

Bloom has said he strongly favors returning to a true part-time citizen Legislature, as our founders intended.

Reducing government interference, especially when it comes to constraints put on

The Tea Party will get tired of the same old gop and start their own party and bring back up the USA to where it should be.

" the anti-tax Tea Party movement "

I thought this started because of the INSANE amount of spending with an 800 billion dollar bank bailout and a 700 billion dollar stimulus slush fund.

Thank you for posting this.

Carlisle is the heart of the red stripe that runs through the center of an otherwise blue state. Let's hope it can keep its conservative heart beating strong!

Good luck in the 2010 campaign!!!

Pardon my cynicism, but it’s good for the GOP because the GOP is incompetent.

In fairness to a few leaders in the Republican, there’s been some outstanding representation - however, that representation is unfortunately overshadowed by the severe ineptitude of the entire Republican machine.

It is a local problem folks. The jackasses in the locals are largely responsible for the failures at the national level. New Republican blood should be elected at every possible level of the GOP hierarchy.

The Tea Party should not be fooled into reelecting RINOs and incompetent, self-serving RINO dung.

I’m not sure why Rick Santelli continues to get credit for naming the Tea Party movement. I was hearing the name for months before Santelli blew up on the floor of the CME. He was just voicing the same concerns of many who understood that neither Obama - nor any politician - funds his projects with a “stash.” That “stash” is funded by WE THE PEOPLE and we should have a say in what happens to it.

Sure, just like the libertarians did, and the Constitution Party, and every other one of the dozens of pissant little third parties that have been absolute duds. Experience and intelligence tells us that if there's going to be any success in the conservative movement, it is going to be by conservatives working through the GOP to retake the party and then win the nation at large. Third Partyism is for cowardly, lazy little gits who don't want to do the heavy lifting of taking the Party back.

Plus divide voters between GOP and Third Parties. Dems won't vote for a Ron Paul or Bob Barr.

Why not infiltrate and just take over the GOP? In the 80's, the Moral Majority and the Conservatives took over the Republican Party and we had the White House for 12 years. It would have been longer but Ross Perot and those who voted for him, gave us the Clintons for life.
Third Parties have NEVER been successful in the 134 years to this day when America declared her Independence. We don't have time for another political party to evolve.

Good Luck Sir!!

Inasmuch as Democrats have infiltrated the GOP for several decades - TEA Party strategists should lead the GOP and infiltrate the DP. That’ll keep things interesting and competitive;)
