If you only know what you read, where does that leave you.

How do you know what Pastor Stanley has/has not been preaching for years?

...a departure from the biblical view of marriage...

Interesting comment from a divorced man. Or is the biblical view of marriage a temporary arrangement?

Today more than ever, the country is turning away from God and moving closer toward socialism, he warned.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Well?...Gee!...Why is anyone surprised?

Since the mid-1800s our nation's children have been educated in socialist government schools. At their very best, these government schools offered a tepid Protestantism and for a long time now the fare has been utterly godless in its worldview.

Simply by attending children learn that the government has **enormous** power to force their neighbors to pay for a service their parents want for tuition-free. Children learned that government could, and **does**, send out armed police to force children to use the socialist schools. Well?...If government can take money from a neighbor for free schools why not have the government pay for Obamacare and a thousand other socialist wants and needs, and force the citizens to use them? Is a “duh!” necessary?

Also...At their best the government schools offered up a generic and lukewarm Protestantism. By my grandmother's day ( born 1894) her schools were almost entirely secular and godless. There was a **HUGE** difference between the government schools my grandmother and father ( born 1913) attended and the vigorous Christianity woven into every minute of my mother's parents’, her’s, and my Catholic education.

If 4 to 5 or 6 generations are indoctrinated to feel comfortable with socialism and secularism ( at best, a lukewarm Protestantism) in our government schools, why should anyone be surprised that America is drifting toward socialism and secularism?

By the way, we know what Christ does with the lukewarm.

[ How do you know what Pastor Stanley has/has not been preaching for years?[

I watch him every now and again on TV.. usually inane minutia..
Like; most other main line preachers do..

Most preachers have removed the Holy Spirit right out of the practical loop.. except for rhetoric..

Jesus is on vacation but gave this planet to the Holy Spirit as a/the steward..
Jesus said he may come back someday, and may.. someday..
They make dogma out of Jesus words but deny the Holy Spirit..

I've watched him for many years also.

but deny the Holy Spirit

Yes I agree, many do, unfortunately. But Jesus is not on vacation - I'm in daily contact and His burden is light.

A man of integrity would know of what he speaks, BEFORE he speaks.

Charles Stanley IS divorced, but not of his own choosing. In our society women can act and do the things they want. Including seeking a divorce.

Charles Stanley agreed to resign if divorced. Obviously the church thought otherwise, and kept him on if he never remarried.

Maybe do a little search and find out what you can , before you attempt to disparage someone.

Stanley reportedly said that if he and his wife divorced then he would resign from First Baptist. A man of integrity would have kept his word.

Maybe before getting on your "Catholic" high horse, and sighting "history", you should look at the FACT that this nation was created by predominantly "Protestants".

Tepid Protestants that desired to start a nation based on biblical principles. Free to pursue God without the dictates of others.

This nation was a grand experiment, something never before attempted. Its early success was stellar, but not without flaws.

You focus on those flaws and attempt to throw them at the feet of protestants, AS IF catholics would have/are above reproach.

John Adams said: "Our Constitution was made only for a moral and righteous people. It is wholly inadequate for the governance of any other."

Being that we were a constitutional Republic, it gave people of all walks of life and religious beliefs access to vote. That includes catholics.

If I pointed out the sins every claimed catholic did, you would be rightly offended, that the sins of one man (or 20 or 2000) do not reflect the position of the church. Likewise the same holds true within protestantism.

There are MANY MANY people, who claim to be "christians", either catholic or protestant, who do not live within biblical principles.

It is human nature to sin. As the Bible says in Romans 3:23
for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.

That applies to protestants as well as catholics.

The Declaration and Constitution were not documents that simply appeared. There were many great (but sinful) men who gathered to forge this nation. But it happened over months. Months of this man wanting this or that man wanting that. Were either man right or wrong? Some were, some weren't. The issue is MANY men gathered with differing viewpoints to create this nation. Many of those men from the same churches or denominations, and yet having differing opinions.

And that right there is the problem.

The 2nd law of thermal dynamics is partially a general law of decay. This applies to life also. Unless man continually applies energy (seeking God) to our lives, our moral energy will in time decline. The same holds true within government (groups of men). Unless ALL these men equally seek God in unison, there governmental endeavors over time will decay. Actually, this isn't about men seeking God, as much as its about seeking God AND ...ALLOWING him to work out his will in our lives. Without this, no matter the desire, work or principles, the endeavor will ultimately decay.

That is where we are at today.

Charles Stanley, at the end of his message, challenged those in his congregation, as well as those watching, to do the ONE THING (and only thing) that will turn this nation around. He asked that anyone who wanted to return this nation to where it was, should for the next 140 days, pray for Gods intervention.

2 Chronicles 7:14 and My people who are called by My name humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, will forgive their sin and will heal their land.

We can either snipe and lay (undeserved) blame at the feet of others, or we can do the one thing that will turn this country around. PRAY

When I watched this program last night on tv, I stood up with the congregation on tv, vowing to pray for this nation, for the next 140 days.

You can whine, moan, complain and lay blame about the state of our country all you want. Or you can join this "lukewarm protestant" in praying for this nation.

I don't particularly care about Stanleys church, and how they operate. I don't know the particulars about what went on, and why he/they chose not for him to resign. Because I am not part of that congregation, I have no say in their decisions. I also know nothing of their decision making process. Because of this I have no grounds on which to throw stones.

I have never heard of any improprieties in Stanleys marriage, allowing for divorce. Because of this, I have no right to condemn Stanley.

What I do have, is the ability to watch and listen to Stanley, and use discretion in discerning what he says and does and applying what he teaches.

If his divorce (not of his volition) were grounds for disqualifying him from any further ministry, what does that mean about Moses, who was a murderer before God used him. Paul also was AT LEAST an approver, if not at least minimum, a accomplice in murder. David was an adulterer, AND YET...God calls him a man after Gods own heart.

Like I said earlier, I know of no indiscretions within Stanleys marriage allowing his wife to divorce. I don't know why the church decided to keep him, but they did, with the stipulation he NEVER remarry. I know of nothing in his current life that disqualifies him from ministry. All I have is what he preaches. And I have no problem with that.

First of all I haven't practiced Catholicism for more than 30 years. My husband and I joined a Protestant sect more than 28 years ago. We have raised our family in that faith. Two of our sons worked as missionaries in Europe for several years preaching the gospel. All of our children are highly active in our Protestant denomination. ( Probably because they didn't attend government schools but were homeschooled.)

Next...My comments were about government schooling which is the very definition of a socialist scheme. At their very best, the religion offered up in these socialist schools ( promoted by 19th century “progressives”) was generic and lukewarm. If the nation's Protestant children had instead attended private schools run by their own denominations their days could have resembled the rich Christianity founded on their **specific** teachings that I enjoyed in my Catholic education.

And...Believe me. The puny and tepid sprinkling of prayer and scripture verse with a carols at Christmas that my grandmother and father were subjected to in their government schools was a disgrace. ( Hey! Secularism was John Dewey's goal all along.) I attended government school for 11th and 12th grade. Yes, we had a prayer and scripture in the morning and carols at Christmas but the rest of the day was **pure** godless secularism. We were literally trained to think godlessly.

I am doing all I can to raise awareness within my Protestant sect about the danger of sending our denomination's children into to the government school temples of godlessness.

If the Lord spits this nation out of His mouth it is because we deserve it. Look what we have done to our children.

As for Catholics they've lost their way, too. My daughter taught math in a Houston Catholic K-8 school last year. Every one of the teachers ( except my daughter) voted for Obama, and the principal and teachers took every opportunity to show the students how thrilled they were a black man was president. That this man supported partial birth abortion and even voted to allow survivors of abortion to die in a stainless steel sink, didn't seem to register in their spiritually dead brains.

It is not possible to get this moral foundation in a socialist-funded government school that must appeal to the sensibilities of all the citizens? At its best, children would ( and were in the earliest of the modern school systems) be fed a generic and lukewarm Christianity. At its worst we would see what we have now: utter godlessness.

Solution: We must shut down the government schools. We must get children into conservatives schools that thoroughly weave the specific Judeo Christian values of the child's family into every minute of the child's school day. I would expect that these schools would in many ways it would resemble the Catholic education that I enjoyed as a child.

Sounds like you and I probably see things quite similarly.

Let us join together in prayer for this nation, and gather and challenge others to do the same.

One of the points Stanley made, and I agree with, and from your post, suspect you would to. Stanley said that in order for God to hear or listen to our prayers, we must live our lives as Christ requires.

2 Chronicles 7:14 and My people who are called by My name humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, will forgive their sin and will heal their land.

The verse (a specific promise to the unique literal holy nation of the literal Jews) does not carry over exactly, but it stands by analogy as a reminder of how God deals with mortal men according to common grace. The more people of a country that do things right (His principles), the more common grace God will give. God does this even to pagan nations, e.g. India.

I agree wholeheartedly. A parents responsibility is to train a child in the way he should go. First and foremost, training them in Gods ways, everything else can be taken care of. BUT... without the training in Gods ways, all else is useless.

This nation was started as a "christian" nation, but over time others were allowed in, and many "christians" abdicated their roles, so in time we (as a nation) have become secularized.

It is our job as Christians to change our nation. Not simply through laws and government, but through the people.

Mark 16:15And He said to them, "Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation"

Matthew 28:19"Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit"

Let us begin with our nation.

"Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other"-John Adams

Unless we change the people, changing the government and schools is impossible.

Romans 11:13 But I am speaking to you who are Gentiles. Inasmuch then as I am an apostle of Gentiles, I magnify my ministry...

17But if some of the branches were broken off, and you, being a wild olive, were grafted in among them and became partaker with them of the rich root of the olive tree,

Once grafted in, a wild branch becomes part of the tree.

I agree that this was written to the nation of Israel. There is no seperating the people or nation in Gods eyes. The United States is not Israel the nation, but the people in the US who are true christians have the same blessings, and responsibilities, as Israel the people.

We can look to ancient Egypt with Joseph and Israel, and the blessings on the nation.

If God blessed Potifers house because of Joseph, or the land of Egypt because of Joseph or the Israelite people, then we being part of Israels tree can do the same to this land.
