Actors in blackface makeup are used during coverage of the World Cup. The broadcasting company says it's just a harmless spoof, but commentators say Mexico as a whole is in denial about racism.

Every morning during television coverage of the World Cup, on the Mexican equivalent of the "Today" show, co-hosts chat, trade barbs and yuck it up. Behind them, actors in blackface makeup, dressed in fake animal skins and wild "Afro" wigs, gyrate, wave spears and pretend to represent a cartoonish version of South Africa.
Yes, in the 21st century, blackface characters on a major television network.

We dislike every black, every one from the middle east... just everyone whos skin isn´t snow white like us... Bingo; approximately 5% of Mexico is pure criollo, or direct descendants of the peninsulares, the original colonizers from Spain, and they are almost exclusively white European. The next 70% are mestizo, or mixed blood of Spanish and indian. The balance are pure indian blood. And there is a definite pecking order in Mexico along those lines, the whiter, the higher, with the pure blood indians treated like dirt. I’ve been there several times on vacation, business, etc. and have observed it many times over in all kinds of settings. However, you’ll never hear the “locals” talk about it among the “gringos.” Every society is bigoted, whether it is along economic (class), political, religious or color lines. And that is a fact. As for the colonizers from Europe, only the Spanish, and to some degree the Portugese, mixed with the people they conquered, none of the other Europeans chose to, for whatever reason.
The Spaniards were considered white. Without the Spaniards, there would be no mestizo, which is what most of Mexico is, if they are not native Indians.

I have known since I was a West Texas teenager that Blacks and Browns don’t mix well, and they both are more racist than any Caucasian I have ever met. Obviously I speak in generalities. There are exceptions to every rule. But overall Black and Brown racism is a palpable thing.

Correct. There just isn’t any diversity in Mexico...at least not like we have here in the states. My roommate still can’t get over Alabama.

The Mexican leadership is pure “Castallan Spanish”? I think you are mistaken. More than 60 percent of the Mexican people are metizos. Fewer than 20 percent are Criollos, that is, Mexicans of pure European descent but, hardly castellanos puros. A lot of the European component are German and French, and even Irish. In fact, with very few exceptions, the only castellanos puros in Mexico are families that fled there during and after the Spanish civil war in the 1930s, and even they quickly mingled with the metizos and Criollos. The political class in Mexico reflects those demographics. The vast majority being metizos, that is, people whose ancestors were both European and indigenous. Fox and Calderon are excellent examples. In fact, Mexican politicians are more likely to be pure or nearly-pure indians than “Castallan.” Benito Juarez was a Zapotec indian from Oaxaca. The last time Mexican leadership was “pure Castallan” was before the war of Independence, which began in 1810. There are a lot of “ricos y famosos” in Mexico who would like you to think they are Spanish, but they are no more Spanish than Pancho Villa was.
How do you know that the dislike of Brazil is racially tinged? Is there any reason other than racism that that there are few blacks in Argentina?
I lived in Chile for 8 years and know the people I lived with have an innocence toward what we would consider “racist”. The idea of a spoof of a black choir done in black face is not the least racist in their minds.
Mexico is probably a very different case, being so close to the US, but I have no way of proving any assertion I might make about their motivations.
A few years ago Jessie Jackson got all bent out of shape over a Mexican comic book character. wonder what he will do with this!
Hopefully many AA whom have been “loyal” to the Dem party despite being led astray, are waking up to the obvious fact that the “Latinos (illegals)” are being courted to replace the AA as the “minority group of favor”.
