Video: Leno demonstrates effectiveness of American education on history

I briefly considered using this clip for tomorrow, but it’s too depressing to post on Independence Day. Instead, we’ll let this serve as a warning on the eve of the nation’s 234th birthday. If you can’t do any better than the people in this clip interviewed by the Tonight Show’s Jay Leno in his Jaywalking segment, turn on the History Channel and try to catch up before tomorrow morning. And who saves the day in this clip?

Thank you, NEA. Now we can clearly see the value of giving public school teachers unbreakable contracts.

Thanks for posting this. I saw the headline posted several times over the weekend but only now clicked and watched the video.

Pathetically sad and explains how Obama can outright lie to the people as only a handful know the difference.

Not only sad but shocking, depressing and very very upsetting.

Is it any wonder why we are not even in the top ten list of global countries who are tops in education?

Are we even in the top twenty?

If the category is "Are you ignorant of your history?" then the answer, if that video is an example, is yes.

If the computer industry ran like the education racket, we’d each be paying thousands of dollars to get an abacus.

In fact, if most any other field were like this, we’d take our business elsewhere. Nice captive consumer they have!

The grandfather at the end is exactly why the libs do not want old people to survive - they know the truth about history.

It is also the reason why we are failing as a country.

Nobody studies math or science anymore.

Girls are flying past boys in their studies (thank goodness somebody is learning something)

It, all of this, is a recipe for disaster for a country and we are careening down that path at breakneck speed.

Is this for real? If so, there’s no way these people should be allowed to vote.

I’m hoping this was just a set up for Leno to get some laughs.

Well, obviously, they need more money.

And THIS time we need to make sure that the extra money is not siphoned off by the Administrators.

The extra cash (and obscene pension and benefits) needs to go in the hands of the actual teachers.

Oh, and they need more days off.

Hope I don’t need a sarc tag.

I was born in Canada in 1951. In the summer of 1959 my family moved to the US (NC).
I had finished Grade 2 here in Canada and been advanced 2 grades to the 4th.
When I registered to go to school in Rocky Mount NC, I was put back a grade,
the reason given... I would have lagged behind the other students in American history.

Today the school might well celebrate a get-to-know Canada day,
extolling its virtues while bad mouthing the evil USA.

What an indictment on our Dept. of Edu. and the Teacher's Unions.
They're even proud of it too.

The problem with videos like this is that you have no idea how many people he interviewed for this segment. Couple that with the fact that the people (who had to sign a release in order to be shown) went into the interview knowing that if they just gave the right answers odds were that they would be thanked and shown the door while if they gave a stupid answer odds are they would be on national television. Given how attention-obsessed our country has become it would come at no surprise that some people would trade their dignity for a chance to look like an idiot being interviewed by the famous Jay Leno.

Just a few posts above this one is another post claiming that 67% of the people think that cutting taxes would be a better choice to fix the economy than using stimulus money. That is getting a lot of good feedback, which just goes to show that people generally support an idea that is already preconceived by them. The Leno segment is also a good indicator.

Teachers unions should be sentenced to watch this once a day for the rest of their “teaching” lives or until students are taught history.
