Belgium considers proposals to dissolve bodies and flush them into sewage systems

It could hardly be said to be the most dignified of send-offs.

Undertakers in Belgium plan to eschew traditional burials and cremations and start dissolving corpses instead. The move is intended to tackle a lack of burial space and environmental concerns as 573lbs of carbon dioxide are released by each cremated corpse.

Members of the EU Commission must rule on the Belgian proposal as there are concerns that residual waste could be flushed into the drainage system.

In resomation the body is placed in a silk bag, itself placed within a metal cage frame. This is then loaded into a Resomator. The machine is filled with a mixture of water and potassium hydroxide. The end result is a small quantity of green-brown tinted liquid containing amino acids, peptides, sugars and salts and soft, porous white bone remains which are easily crushed. The white ash can then be returned to the next of kin of the deceased. The liquid can be recycled back to the ecosystem by being applied to a memorial garden or forest or simply put into the sewerage system.

The vessel of the human soul reduced to its constituent chemicals and disposed of accordingly by .....Government.

The day will come when the ......Government....will dispense with the notion of the 'human soul'. 'Management' of the ecosystem can then be done indiscriminantly and arbitrary exigency will prevail.

This doesn't pass the smell/logic test. How did they figure this?

Disgusting and the idea of that stuff going into the waste water system is horrifying.

Where is the respect for the dead? No matter how little burial space is available or how supposedly polluting cremation is, those are your only two choices and still maintain respect for the deceased.

Could also include the CO2 released by the combustion of the natural gas used in cremating.

This is rapidly becoming the answer I wish to and imagine giving to all the things these bastards propose: Flip safety to “off” and say “go ahead, you first”.

Maybe they could feed them to hogs and then burn the hogs (as some European nations are doing with rabbit corpses) to fuel power plants.

Where is the respect for the dead?

How can we expect them to respect the dead when they don't respect the living?(abortion,health-care rationing, death panels;etc....)

How does a corpse result in 573 lbs of carbon dioxide? The average body is 55% water, 19% fat, 19% protein. The rest is "ash", calcium and phosphorous. The carbon containing fraction is the fat/protein at 36%.

Well it will certianly give them the means to dispose of bodies without a trace should they ever want to purge the populace of the politically incorrect.

If there is “no disrespect” in forcing everyone to be disolved, then there is “no disrespect” in digging up EVERY SINGLE GRAVE and doing likewise with those remains. They can reclaim the real estate and use it for green farming.

That is, if no one will be offended.
