The man shot by police outside a Summerlin Costco store on Saturday was a graduate of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point with a master's degree from Duke University, friends said.

Army veteran Erik Scott, 39, was at the store near Charleston Boulevard and the Las Vegas Beltway with his girlfriend before three officers fatally shot him in a confrontation.

I strongly suspect the command, “drop it,” was the fatal catalyst for this tragedy. But what should the victim have done in response to such a command?

There’s a reason why the Feds have been giving piles of cash to these local PDs so they can play “G.I. Joe”. I’ll leave it as an exercise to you to figure out what that reason is.

Sounds like the Costco employee made up the “man going beserk” part because a citizen had the nerve to defy him. the police then overreacted partly based on false information. This is what liberalism and statism hath wrought.

Hopefully COSTCO will be bankrupted by the lawsuit resulting from this. A company should be responsible for the actions of a di**hit, liberal employee.

Sounds like jack booted thugcops planned on taking him down. And did.

But he’s white, aka without rights, so nothing will come of this. At least from “only blacks have rights” holder /spit and obama /spit...

I see this report as coinciding with the unbiased eye witnesses. High credibility.

F@ck Costco. Boycott time...

We saw the disabled man stooping to his right facing us with what appeared to be a bullet wound in his upper chest with blood coming from the wound and immediately his eyes became glossy as he began to convulse. At this point he was no threat to anyone, both hands were in full view of us and there was no gun. As he was down, the police continued to shout ‘put the gun down’ several times...but there was no gun in his hand as we had full vantage point view. The injured man was having agonal respirations, he was down when the second volly of bullets rang out. There was no doubt in question that following the second barrage of bullets the man was dead.

Failed to respect their authoritay while dying. That'll show him.

Also it must be confirmed whether the second gun supposedly found by the victims side was indeed also registered to him as a licensed conceal and carry.

Ahhh, the "plant" gun. It will probably come back as unregistered and the cops will receive a commendation for getting another illegal gun off the mean streets. A job well done.

-- I legally CC all the time and this is THE one scenario I fear the most. --

Just put your hands in the air, go prone, whatever. Never let your hands go out of sight. Tell the law where the weapon is, and let them fetch it.

That said, this story pisses me off. These cops must be terminated from the police force, minimum. Likewise with the city or county management that puts up a legal defense., They all need to find work in the private sector.

“Sounds like the Costco employee made up the “man going beserk” part because a citizen had the nerve to defy him.”

Ironically, I’m pretty sure that the victim, using his weapon, would have gladly intervened to save this liberal puke’s life if there had been a real shooter on the loose in the Costco store.

It’s still that way in most of Texas outside the leftist infested big cities. And Plano (where the chief of police is a typical thugcop IMHO).

The police then overreacted partly based on false information.

Not quite. The police then murdered an innocent and endangered many other innocents wholly based on indulging their own authoritarian power trips. Multiple eyewittess counts confirm that the man was doing ZERO for them to overreact to.

This is from a person who grew up in a community of small towns that had some very, very GOOD cops whose wisdom and ability to remain calm and humble no doubt saved MANY a misdirected youth from choosing a bad road, instead gently urging them to the good road toward productive adulthood. In this same community, there were one or two BAD cops whose stupidity, arrogance, and tendency to panic certainly created criminals out of misdirected kids who came to have an ingrained hatred and contempt for all law enforcement.

Bad cops are WORSE than criminals because their collateral damage is far more wide-ranging.

You are absolutely correct.

Also, if a private citizen had gunned down someone in their home who was allegedly “going beserk”, would there be this amount of disinterest on the part of the LEO’s? Not a chance.

The police sound like thay may have committed a homocide.

Based on the eye-witness statements, that would be a First Degree Homocide, premeditated murder, on the part on at least one of the gun-happy uniformed thugs.

Looks like it might be a while before a reliable report on what really happened comes out.

Not in the least. A reliable report is out right now, either way.

The store cameras will confirm whether the cops report is reliable, or the mans' family and the reported witnesses produced the reliable report.

If the police report was accurate, the video will probably be shown. If the police lied, only nthe jusy will see the footage.

According to Las Vegas police, officers were called to 801 S. Pavilion Center Drive at 12:47 p.m. by a store worker who said a man was destroying merchandise. Police were told the man had a gun.

Concealed Carry means no one except yourself knows you are carrying.

I don’t doubt the cops overreacted, but the report of a “man going beserk” didn’t help matters. Believe me, if he had been, the CCTV footage would already be released.

After reading the eyewitness accounts, it sounds like the cops murdered the man, complete with a kill shot just to make sure.

That’s a planned shoot: Yell “drop it” loud enough for witnesses to hear, then fire immediately.

Sounds like first degree murder - an execution - to me.
