The man shot by police outside a Summerlin Costco store on Saturday was a graduate of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point with a master's degree from Duke University, friends said.
Army veteran Erik Scott, 39, was at the store near Charleston Boulevard and the Las Vegas Beltway with his girlfriend before three officers fatally shot him in a confrontation.

Exactly. Things happen. Personally I am gad I moved from a state where they CC laws take that into account. The last state I lived in had laws that basically said if anyone ever saw it you were brandishing. How is that for fuel for handgun banners?

I agree with your assessment. But if you raise your hands high, drop to your knees, and LOUDLY announce, that’s your best odds at surviving the confrontation.
Like you say tho, you might still be shot and killed. Then, if any are ever charged, which is seldom if ever, about the best your family and friends can expect is removal from the force. But most of the time, they find a way to claim the shooting was justified. No matter what the circumstances. It could be cold blooded murder, but their report will conclude justified.
Really, it’s WAY too bad that we think that way these days.

Actually I would say it DOES matter. Are there occasional unjustified shootings by the police? Yes, there are. Are “most” police shootings unjustified? No, they are not. Almost ANY crime, including rape and murder, will usually receive far less than the death penalty in a court of law. Do does this mean that the police (and I assume you would also extend this to citizens who act in self defense) should reserve the use of deadly force for only those suspects who are likely to be serial killers?
This case is the exception to the norm, and to try to generalize it to represent even a substantial portion of police shootings, let alone “most” police shootings is every bit as disengenuous as the attempts by the gun-grabbing brady bunch to pounce on every gun crime as a reason for more gun control laws.

I'd say that the prevalence of questionable shootings these days makes that issue a lot more murky than it used to be. There's a definite "shoot first, ask questions later" mentality that cops in this country have adopted in the name of "officer safety" and it's led to more guns being used in circumstances where they probably aren't justified or necessary - e.g. conducting a SWAT raid on a small-time marijuana user, or "disarming" an angry granny with a kitchen knife.
Even Gay people have a 2nd amendment right................
