Israel orders Gaza aid ship to divert

Signalling forceful interception in case of non-compliance, the Israeli Navy on Tuesday confronted a Libyan aid ship trying to breach Israel’s three-year-old blockade of Hamas ruled Gaza Strip and ordered it to divert its course. But the captain of the ship rejected the order, setting course for a new confrontation over the blockade.

Aboard the 92-metre vessel are a crew of 12 from Haiti, India and Syria, under the command of a Cuban-born captain, local media reports said. Most of the activists on board are from Libya, except for one Nigerian, one Algerian and one Moroccan, it added.

An Israeli Navy vessel warned the Moldovan-flagged Greek registered cargo vessel Amalthea — renamed Hope by activists — that it was entering a closed military zone. “The navy just began its process of trying to stop the ship,” an Israel Defence Forces (IDF) spokesperson said adding, “At this time the process of communicating with them has begun.”

Remember when NO BODY used to EFF with the US and her allies? These ships like the USS Missouri would just show up and let off a few rounds down range about 30 miles. No one dared to pull the stunts they do today.

Israel should warn them once and deep six the lot.

The organizers may not want to cave, but they aren’t on the ship.

It seems most likely to me that the captain decided this wasn’t worth getting himself killed over. The “activists” are along for the ride unless they want to try and hijack the ship.

"The relief vessel was commissioned by an agency headed by Saif Gadhafi, second son of Col. Muammar Gadhafi, Libya's dictator....oops, presidente."

If I recall, Col. Gadhafi's adopted daughter was unfortunately killed in a bombing raid on Libya ordered by President Reagan in 1986.

Is the Krazy Kernel trying for a twofer sometime down the line, or what?

I'll bet Libyans vote him "Father of the Year every June by unanimous vote.

Torpedoes are expensive, shells are cheap. Gotta be budget-conscious these days. ;^)

Sink it.

Every time such a ship appears Israel loses...in one way or another and to one degree or another. In the realm of public opinion there's *no* way that Israel can "win" with the world press or with other governments.

So she might as well sink it...thus ensuring that no weapons will reach the 9th Century knuckle dragging pig fornicators currently residing in Gaza.

What, the post or the quote? I’m not married to it. But somebody needs to make an example of these loons. All the firepower in the world is worthless if you don’t have the will to use it.

And really, what is wrong with the quote? A million different events had to happen in just a certain way for Hitler to take power and remain there. Just like a million different things had to happen for a commie radical like osama to get in the white hut. Those who disagreed did their best to resist but in the end were liquidated.

At the time I posted, which was close to the time of the latest update on the story, it was already Wednesday, July 14th in Jerusalem and definitely the wee hours of Wed. in India (the origin of the story). The Middle East and Asia’s time zone is ahead of ours. So, the story is correctly dated; thanks for noticing.

I think that was a previous story, where Libya put out conflicting destinations to confuse the situation.

This will be a constant exercise now.

Exactly, as this latest article mentions, the call has gone out in the Arab world for perpetual flotillas to wear down the blockade.

Okay. Latest confirmation (3 hrs. ago) is Libyan ship enters Egyptian waters

On Tuesday morning, the Navy made initial radio contact with the Amalthea and urged the captain to change his course and sail to el-Arish in Sinai. Navy missile ships were closely tracking the cargo ship, which on Tuesday evening was sailing about 6 knots an hour and was 120 km. from el-Arish and 145 km. from Gaza.

...The Navy said it did not have intelligence indicating that the ship was carrying weapons, but was suspicious and therefore would continue to track the ship until it was clear that it was sailing to Egypt. In addition to the ships at sea tracking the vessel, teams of commandos from the navy’s Flotilla 13 – known as the Shayetet – were put on standby in case they needed to seize the ship to prevent it from reaching Gaza.

Death by a thousand cuts... why, why, why?
