The White House said on Wednesday it was "surprised and disappointed" by attacks on its policies from some corners of the business world, as it pushed back hard against criticism from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.
"The stakes are far too high for us to be working against one another," White House chief of staff Rahm Emanuel and Valerie Jarrett, President Barack Obama's top adviser, said in a letter to the chamber, a top lobby group for U.S. businesses.
"That is why we were surprised and disappointed at the rhetoric we have heard from some in the business community -- rhetoric that fails to acknowledge the important steps this administration has taken," they said in the letter, a copy of which was obtained by Reuters.
The chamber, which is hosting a jobs summit on Wednesday, has accused Obama and his Democrats in Congress of neglecting job creation and hampering growth with burdensome regulatory and tax policies.
Recalling the Gulf of Mexico oil spill, the White House said it would not "stand by" while the energy industry fought tighter regulations to improve environmental safety, and stressed its duties went far wider than the business lobby.

Didnt they just spend two years attacking businesses and threatening them with higher taxes? Didn't they say businesses got a free ride from that last guy (I won't say his name) and now they will have to pay in more taxes and regulations?

The lack of leadership these people display is breathtaking.

There is long term and there is short term.
Bush's years, especially the last two with the democrat congress created the perception that capitalism failed and that the only way ahead was a government run economy. This is because he talked capitalism and made capitalistic gestures while promoting socialism policies. That is what got us Obama and Pelosi. A McCain presidency (with the democrat congress yet) would have made this perception even worse with very similar economic results.
Obama and Pelosi with their overwhelming majority are showcasing their own economic policies. Now everyone can see what democrat policies result in :debt and unemployment and eventually inflation. Everyone can hear their lame excuses and even the MSM is making fun of them. They are not listened to anymore except by us (to make fun of) and a few clueless liberals. Obama accomplished in only 12 months what it took Bush over 4 years to: become a joke with no credibility to the general public.
