A new poll shows Arizona Sen. John McCain widening his lead over his Republican challenger ahead of next month's GOP primary.

The Rocky Mountain Poll released Wednesday shows McCain leading former U.S. Rep. J.D. Hayworth 64 percent to 19 percent. Political newcomer Jim Deakin had 5 percent.

McCain's margin has widened from a 54 percent to 28 percent lead he held over Hayworth in the same poll in April.

The telephone poll was conducted by the Behavior Research Center between June 30 and July 11 and has a margin of error of plus or minus 5.4 percentage points. Pollsters surveyed a random sample of 334 registered Arizona voters, including 190 Republicans and 144 independents who said they would vote in the Republican primary.

After all, the country knows Sarah Palin’s endorsements only turn off conservative voters.

Huh? That joke is as bad as Mitt Romney himself.

Sounds like the pollsters contacted people who were at home sucking on the Welfare teat,

Wouldn't surprise me in the least.

So you admit Sarah’s endorsement and constant ads running help McCain?

You are the one with the joke.

“Ouch. That number seven is a killer. “

You mean this one?

I just came from 6 months in AZ and found not one single McLame supporter

I live here, and at least nobody I know will ADMIT to being for McCain.

No, that’s my opinion, and apparently not just mine, by the polls.

I sent the campaign some money after Palin joined. I now get spammed regularly by McCain, I think even after asking to be removed from their list.

How can Arizonans be so smart with Brewer but so dumb with McCain?

It seems fairly obvious that Arizonians don’t like the Mc Cain alternative. He becomes the smart choice when there is nothing perceived as better

Same here. I get that crap in the mail almost every day from the “Friends of John McCain”. He has big money in the amnesty crowd backing him and they are willing to let him say whatever will get him re-elected so they can get their amnesty pushed through after the elections (with McCain taking the lead).

And that is why I have no faith in elections ever turning this country around. Stupid, stupid voters.

Unfortunately elections don't seem to work anymore. It's gonna take the same action our forefathers took to get our country back.

Just sayin.

Bad history repeating itself. Ignorance and big $$$ is the only thing that ever got McCain elected.

Poll: Voters Unaware of Candidates’ Immigration Positions; McCain Supporters Farthest Off the Mark

March 2008

[snip]–A new poll using neutral language finds that primary and caucus voters have little knowledge of candidates’ immigration positions. The results also show that voters often do not share their candidate’s position.

Among the findings:

* Only 34 percent of McCain voters, 42 percent of Clinton voters, and 52 percent of Obama voters correctly identified their candidate as favoring eventual citizenship for illegal immigrants who meet certain requirements.
* Of McCain voters, 35 percent mistakenly thought he favored enforcement that would cause illegals to return home, another 10 percent thought he wanted mass deportations, and 21 percent didn’t know his position.
* Voters often held different positions from the candidate they supported. Only 31 percent of McCain voters had the same immigration position as he does. For Clinton voters, 45 percent shared her position; 61 percent of Obama voters shared his position

“Perhaps we should praise JD, after all in a few months he forced McCain to take some conservative positions. Something we could not accomplish for a decade. “

BINGO!

Since McCain started this race, he dropped his prescriptions for vitamins legislation, swears he NEVER supported amnesty (lie of the flippin’ century!)and wants to secure the border!

LIES, all lies. ARizona stands up with HB1070 then falls back in the rino dumper with McCain.

WAKE UP ARIZONA!

What is it with McCain?????

What makes him able to get a “surge” to win elections?
He was down and out in the Presidential election - then he appears as our only candidate for the GOP.

He has every reason to be down and out in Arizona now - but he comes in with a “surge”.

Looks really suspicious to me.

Arizona voter MAY BE stupid (if they re-elect McLame that will prove it)...

They DID, after all, vote for the 1% “temporary” sales tax this year.

I live in Erie County, NY and we have had our “temporary” 1% one-year sales tax for over 30 years now. They don’t even bother to comment on it when it is re-approved every year.

Have they forgotten why they needed the Arizona illegal alien law in the first place?

IIRC a poll was done after the Presidential election that found that 31% did NOT know that McCain was active in the Amnesty push. I can't remember whether it was Republicans or people who voted for McCain...

In either case, that's frightening. I'm not sure what that number would be now.

It tells me the people of AZ are too damned stupid for me to support. They deserve a bunch of illegal Mexicans. And with McCain back in that’s exactly what they’re going to get.

With only 334 people surveyed, the margin of error is fairly hefty, at 5.4. McCrazy surely still has a lead, but the reality is likely not even close to the numbers given here.

Unfortuantely, yes.

Her endorsements have secured victories for other primary candidates, you can not deny that, or maybe you can?

I think the voters sould purge all the MeCain/Romney-like RINOs.
