Mod note:

AP changed the title:

BP, feds clash over reopening capped Gulf oil well

--------------------------------------

Both could be signs there are leaks in the well that's been capped off for three days.

The official spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity Sunday because an announcement about the next steps had not been made yet.

This isn’t a secret, they’ve been showing it on the ROV-cam for two days. They’ve discussed it at the morning briefings. You can hear the audio and read the transcript.

It is not unusual for bubbles to come out near the outer casing of a well. THe outer casing only goes 500 feet.

It is apparently hard to collect little bubbles from 5000 feet under water. IN the briefings, they discuss how they are analyzing secondary effects to determine if the bubbles are methane, and if they are leaking from the flow or are natural.

In this morning’s briefing, they clearly stated that they have no evidence of any leaking, and even expressed an intent that the testing continue until the well is killed.

That won’t stop idle speculation by “anonymous” sources. I’ve had it with anonymous sources. Most of the arguments we get into are because of these stupid anonymous sources.

We used to think lying was a venal sin, and people wouldn’t do it. I think too many people have decided that lying is just fine.

I have a hunch many more seeps will be discovered.

Feds don’t want it to succeed so they can own BP in 30 or so days...

They just can’t let go of the propaganda gold mine that has been the busted oil well -— which, incidentally has been fixed -— let’s find more problems with it.

>>There’s a lot of natural seeps on the Gulf floor. Hope they’re not mistaking a natural event for a leak.

The well is capped and Cap’n Tax isn’t passed. If someone spills a quart of oil in Missouri, the FedGov will call it a well seep and the news media will start tearing their clothes and moaning about the death of the Gulf again.

Dumb question: Why not connect pipe to the well and relieve the pressure by allowing the oil rise to the surface and into waiting ships?

That's what Thad Allen wants. BP management disagrees.

Why don't they finish the relief wells?

The relief wells are still on schedule.

There’s a lot of natural seeps on the Gulf floor. Hope they’re not mistaking a natural event for a leak.

At 5000fsw the methane gas is in solution. Bringing the product to the surface results in the methane gas coming out of solution and leading to an explosion unseen in the course of human history. Think Tunguska to the factor of 10
