We are still proud self sufficient folks, and we even have teeth and know a little correct grammar. Maybe no one has noticed that we are not one of the states that are close to bankruptcy.
The answer to the question is, no, unfortunately Capito can not beat Manchin. But if she runs it will make the democrats spend money and force some issues to be debated and acknowledged to exist. An informed electorate can demand accountability.
e don’t pick pockets in WV, and we had a right to get some benefits. We are US citizens, too. I remember being completely ignored, for years, when the defense plants, military bases, roads, and other goodies were handed out.
There are more welfare people in NYC and Chicago than we have total population.
West Virginia? Self Sufficient? West Virginia is not in debt because the rest of us are paying for your existence in one way or another, thanks in large part to Sheets. My wife is proud to hail from West Virginia and she'll be the first one to tell you that. I've worked in WV dozens of times, everywhere from Wheeling to Blue Field to the coal field in the SW part of the state. There is very little of WV that I haven't seen. The most common sight I saw standing in line at a grocery store in any part of the state was the three people in front of me in line all using food stamps. It's plain as day what is going on in WV. Maybe you need to get out more.....
Amen. thank you neighbor. People have taken up the habit of beating up on WV and it is undeserved. Sure we have our share of welfare folk, but as you say, WV has maybe a million and a half people in the whole state. Life has never been easy for the people of WV. They have a long history of being exploited by outside powers (timber & coal), and by the government welfare programs which did the same to the poor Appalachians that it did to the blacks in urban cities. It robbed them of self-reliance and self-respect. Still the majority of WVirginians are good hard working conservative people.
