... the Ethics Committee finished with its inquiry. Lawmakers probed. Interviewed. And in the end, found wrongdoing by Rangel. But to quote the 1970s song by The Carpenters, Weve only just begun. In fact, an investigative panel of the House Ethics Committee Thursday issued what it termed a Statement of Alleged Violation, meaning lawmakers indeed uncovered ethical lapses. The committee wasnt specific about where Rangel slipped. But theyve studied Rangels taxes, his use of Congressional stationary to raise money for a school of public affairs in his name, how hes utilized rent-controlled apartments in Harlem and the improper storage of a broken, unregistered Mercedes-Benz in a House parking garage. However, the obtuse Ethics Committee statement went on to announce the creation of yet another jury called an adjudicatory subcommittee. It will judge whether any counts in the Statement of Alleged Violation have been proved by clear and convincing evidence and to make findings of fact. Translation: the adjudicatory subcommittee will check the work of the first subcommittee.

But Rangel dismissed a suggestion by ABCs Dean Norland that this was bad news.
Dont you say that because you have no idea what is good news or bad news, Rangel lectured. I dont have any fear at all politically or personally (with) what they came up with.
Eventually, the adjudicatory subcommittee will hold sessions with Rangel and possibly witnesses and then render judgment.
But that will bleed well into September. That raises questions around Rangels re-election chances. The Harlem Democrat faces a primary challenge in September from state legislator Adam Clayton Powell IV. Moreover, many Democrats dont want anything about ethics creeping too close to an election. But thats what theyll get with this stage of the process in its infancy.
This is ironic. In fact House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) released this November, 2008 statement about Rangels ethics woes.
I have been assured the report will be completed by the end of this session of Congress, which concludes on January 3, 2009. I look forward to reviewing the report at that time.
Only if this thing drags on into next year when the GOP is in charge.
Adam Clayton Powell IV.
Wasn’t he the lead singer with the Spinners ?
Did anyone else see the interview on
Morning Joe this morning that they started the show with?
A Press gaggle had surrounded Ramngel and started asking him questions. And then one asked him what he would do if thrown out of Congress? Rangel, taken aback, asked the reporter how di the reporter think he got into office/ and then asked him how he expected that he would get trmoved from his office? The reporter rtrepnded two ways, your fellow members could toss you out, or...Rangelf face went apoplectic...Or the voters could vote him out.
Rangel asked the reporter what network he was from, (I knew what he thought, I was thinking it myself, that the reporter was with FNC or some other right leaning outlet. ready to lace into him.) and I swear my jaw dropped with his, as the reporter said he was with NBC!!! Rangel went on yto say Well now you see whats happening with a network that *used* to have some respectability!
This is not a verbatim account, just as I remember the salient points.
I gotta see that again! Rangel could not have been more non-plussed, nor revealing in his reactions.
>Bo)
I am really hoping he ends up like Duke Cunningham!
I saw it too.
NBC
Then he muttered “Actually MSNBC” !!!
I was amazed.
The blatant liberal bias is absolutely overwhelming, except for this one rare ray of sunshine.
I recommend to his district that they elect a nice honest Hispanic person instead of this POS.
The party of corruption.
That’s really, really good news.
It should have happened 10 years ago, or more, but still good news.
governsleastgovernsbest,
Did you catch this? See also post #6.
"Lecture" it to the judge you arrogant dirtbag...and to the voters.
Mr Rangel is a member of the political class.
A black democrat congressman get kicked out, your kidding right?.
He will skate, nothing will be done..
A D.A. has to file charges. Ethical violations determined by fellow MOC's run along the lines of housekeeping. The findings need to be turned over to law enforcement in order to have criminal investigations begin.
The House Ethics Committee as such runs parallel to Articles of Impeachment, these are political remedies, not criminal.
Only if his continuing in his seat costs the Dems, and I don't see it happening. From Rangel's own mouth in your next post:
I dont have any fear at all politically or personally (with) what they came up with.
Nope. We all know how this game is played, the double-standard of R vs. D after your name, the demographics of your constituency, etc. He has nothing to fear whatever with, as he puts it, "what they came up with." (Does anyone else read that there's way more to find, it just wasn't unearthed as yet?)
