Duisburg, Germany - At least 10 people died Saturday at a techno-music festival in the German city of Duisburg when crowds of people were crushed in a tunnel leading to the event grounds, police said.

Early reports by news channel NTV said that 15 people had been resuscitated by emergency rescue staff following the crush at the Love Parade event, which reportedly occurred when a security control point was overwhelmed by festival goers.

The Love Parade is one of Europe's largest electronic music events...

I'm not feelin' the love.

I have a general rule to avoid the type of people who would just as soon crush me as wait their turn in line.

I've been to some VERY crowded Christian events (concerts, Promise Keepers, Stand in the Gap (Washington DC)). I never once feared that the people would kill me to get where they wanted to go.

No one snowflake ever felt responsible for an avalanche.

I am watching the coverage on TV, the party is still going on and there is a report of a hostile crowd at the train station when told they should leave.

They report 1.4 million people and the place is too small for it.

Mobil phone network is collapsed and the trains just stopped running because people are on the tracks.

They are afraid if they stop the music that would cause more peril.

“They report 1.4 million people and the place is too small for it.”

If you use media methods to determine crowd size at more conservative oriented events, the number is more like 3 or 4 thousand people.

Also, I think all of this is FUD ... Europe is perfect and things like this would never happen in Euroland.

“Love Parade” is not a family friendly event. It use to be held in Berlin, but got moved out of that city. I've seen some video tape. A good amount of public sex, and public urination and deification in front of cheering crowds. I think there is also a minimum of three nose rings and two lip rings required per participant.

So it’s pretty much a rave-type event.

There’s a clear lesson to be learned here: Nothing good can ever come of playing techno music.
