Rangel: Resigning now would be un-American By Bridget Johnson - 07/24/10 04:19 PM ET
Embattled Rep. Charles Rangel (D-N.Y.) said Saturday it would be un-American of him to resign in the face of a looming ethics trial.
The Hill first reported Friday night that Rep. Betty Sutton (D-Ohio) had called on Rangel to step down, the first sitting House Democrat to do so.
The New York Daily News reported Saturday that Rangel, speaking to reporters at Harlem Hospital, brushed off the call to give up his seat.
"Well, it wouldn't be the American thing to do," he said. "I think I owe it to the process to find out first what the investigative committee finds out."
"...I really never heard of that concept that if someone accuses you of something, why don't you just step aside so you don't embarrass anybody and admit to something that you don't believe is true."
Rangel also addressed why he didn't settle the case, which would have avoided a trial but forced the congressman to admit ethics violations.
"I don't know how I can make a deal when no one knows what they've found," he said.
Don’t go , Charlie, don’t go. We want to point to you as a corrupt, cheating, thieving, lying Democrat. After November 2nd, you may leave.
As I said on another thread, Rangel crossed someone — I don’t know who — if they are coming after him now. He’s been getting away with his corruption for years, so why are theyu coming after him now?
Resigning would certainly be un-democrat.
&&
Even if he resigns, he’s still set for life; he’s made lots as a member of Congress, and he’ll still have his pension.
ROFLOL! Charlie really does believe he has the gift of gab doesn’t he? Sorry Charlie not buying what you’re selling!
Been a Repub though and Rangelidiot would have been saying the opposite....hypocriteidiotmaximus.
Careful. You never know where his finger’s been!
So he’s shaking down Rats in congress. “Give me what you want or I’ll embarass you all just before the election....My constituates will reelect me no matters what.”
He probably could black mail half the Rats party leaders.
“Rangel: Resigning now would be un-American”
LOL!! Right! Stealing from us is un-American! Throw this crook in jail for the rest of his life!
No, Charlie, if you resigned it would be the most pro-American thing you do in your whole life.
And Charlie is such a "loyal" American...
Note: the page (on the Workers World Party website) with this photo has recently been removed.
But here's other evidence of his speaking at the event:
"Among the many speakers were elected representativesU.S. Rep. Charles Rangel and New York City Council members Charles Barron and Margarita Lopezwho have bucked their party to come out against the war. Barron has also introduced a Troops Out Now resolution in the City Council."--Workers World Party

The whole Congress is dirty, until proven otherwise, the people have no representation, most of them are felons.
This allows the Qbama junta to get its way through extorting them.Rangel would not go along. His destiny may be to take his grave beside Sec. Commerce Ron Brown. Maybe he will sing like a canary before.
Amazing how consistently Lefties say something is bad for America when it is bad for them personally.
"I think I owe it to the process to find out first what the investigative committee finds out.""I don't know how I can make a deal when no one knows what they've found"
Now if I'm a prosecutor those statements are gonna make my ears perk up and I'm going to start digging, DEEPER(1). As 'Cadillac Charlie' doesn't say he's not guilty, or hasn't done anything illegal - just that he doesn't know what they have on him.
Ergo, this guy has mucho skeletons in his political closet. It's not just that 'little' Income Tax thing he's worried about.
(1) just like when Blago's FIL (Ald Dick Mell) called him a crook on the floor of the Chicago City Counsel. That's when the Feds started tapping his phones. It wasn't about Barry's senate seat. That was just gravy.
I agree with Charlie...a drawn out public airing of the charges and a display of the arrogance and corruption infesting Washington is what we need leading up to the Nov. elections. Give em hell Charlie...
New York ping.
Will Rangel drop out of running again?
When it comes to Rangel, I think the moderators might give you a pass.
What a choice, huh?
more popcorn.
