Rasmussen Report: McCain 54%, Hayworth 34%

Senator John McCain has opened a 20-point lead over former Congressman J.D. Hayworth in Arizona’s Republican Senate Primary race.

The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of Likely GOP Primary Voters in the state shows McCain attracting 54% of the vote, while Hayworth earns 34%.

For Hayworth, this represents another decline in support. In April, he picked up 42% of the vote. That fell to 40% in May, 36% in June and 34% in July.

For McCain, the 54% level of support is his highest yet.

“Some other candidate” picks up seven percent (7%) support, and six percent (6%) are undecided.

Last month, McCain led 47% to 36%.

Arizona Republicans will pick their Senate nominee in an August 24 primary. A member of the U.S. Senate since 1987, McCain was reelected in 2004 with nearly 77% of the vote.

Any guesses?

$12 million plus will buy you a lot of votes.

Look....J.D. had a small window of opportunity early to seize it and if he did, he would be taking the gold right now....he missed it and now the ship is sailing away.

Meh.

Rasmussen does phone polling, so my guess is that they picked up more than a few illegal alien responses.

He will reward Arizonans [and the rest of this once-great country] by bestowing upon it 20 to 50 MILLION new 'citizens' with the probable result of securing, once and for all, a permanent Democrat Socialist ruling tyranny.

Nice going Juan -- all to keep a job from which you obviously don't need the money. I am so ashamed that I was persuaded to vote for him.

If people continue to do the same thing, they continue to get the same results....if AZ doesn’t fire McCain, then we, are indeed, on the road to doom because absolutely nothing changes when these barnacles continue to latch on to the ship of the Republic. The ship continues to go down from the weight of their ruthlessness, corruption and self importance. God help wake these fools up that want to continue American’s destruction!!

Rino McFlame is a pathetic senile joke. The voters of Arizona are as stupid as the voters of Nevada apparently. They have to destroyed by McFlame and Reid and totally bankrupt then thrown into the sewer before they learn?

Totally agree, if Republicans are so dumb to re-elect campaign and believe his blatant lies how much more so (dumb) are the liberals, all is lost. The truth is the country has less that 10% true conservatives left, that is, those that want to truly hold to the constitution, they rest just want handouts, and that’s both Republicans and Democrats, they are all seeking what they did not work for.

It’s hard for me to square Arizonan voters supporting both the State’s new immigration law and McAmnesty. Not to mention the rising desire from Pubbies and Dems alike to throw the incumbents out.

Any cogent explanation from Arizonan voters?

I hate to say it, but Rasmussen is usually pretty reliable. These numbers are really dismal. I don’t know if it’s McCain’s big bucks, or Hayworth’s failure to seize the opportunity, or voter stupidity, or what. But it sure doesn’t look good.

I want to see McCain out of there as much as anyone. But it looks as if his flip flopping is working, unfortunately.

And unfortunately he’s pretty sure to flop right back to the left as soon as the election is over. It’s what he’s always done.

Likely GOP voters? There’s still a chance for JD. I refused to register GOP. They went with open primaries so there’s no consequence for being independent. I can’t tolerate mccain.

Let’s see what a cumulative registered voters who intend to vote for open GOP primaries show.
