Journolist flap shows conservative media conspiracy, not liberal one (ROFL!)
Wash Post ^ | Greg Sargent

Posted on 07/26/2010 8:44:55 AM PDT by pissant

That's the real story behind the Journolist flap, no matter what you've read to the contrary on news sites, reputable or otherwise.

Consider today's lead story on the Daily Caller, the conservative site that's led the charge on the J-list "scandal." The story "exposes" a J-List thread in which the topic of some kind of journalistic coordination came up. It has this huge headline:

Journolist debates making its coordination with Obama explicit

But way down in the 13th paragaraph, the story quotes a post from the very same thread in which J-List founder and Post blogger Ezra Klein excplicitly rules out any such coordination:

Ezra Klein of the Washington Post, the founder of Journolist, quickly jumped in: "Nope, no message coordination. I'm not even sure that would be legal. This is a discussion list, though, and I want it to retain that character," he wrote.

The fact that the Compost has two left wing stooges like Sargent and Klein on its payroll is all you need to know.

Who is their at large 'conservative' blogger at the Compost? Well, by golly, it was left wing retard and after-birther David Weigel, until he was exposed, anyway.

Yeah, Klein did say there should be “no message coordination”—when that is what he and the others were doing. That was the point of his list.

Sargent admitted in his previous post (linked in this story) that he used to be part of Talking Points Memo.

This reads to me as a "nudge, nudge, wink, wink" comment along the lines of "from a legal standpoint I'll have to advise against it, BUT I'm not going to stop you from talking about it (please do!)".

Ed Kilgore of the Progressive Policy Institute and Todd Gitlin of the Columbia School of Journalism continued to push for better messaging against John McCain and Palin. Gitlin made it specific:

“McCain lies about his maverick status. Routinely, cavalierly, cynically. Palin lies about her maverick status. Ditto, ditto, ditto. McCain has a wretched temperament. McCain is a warmonger. Palin belongs to a crackpot church and feels warmly about a crackpot party that trashes America.

“Repeat after me:

“McCain lies about his maverick status. Routinely, cavalierly, cynically. Palin lies about her maverick status. Ditto, ditto, ditto. McCain has a wretched temperament. McCain is a warmonger. Palin belongs to a crackpot church and feels warmly about a crackpot party that trashes America.

Conservatives do not have the power, the MSM does. This guy completely misses the point.

He was a J member himself:

At risk of getting drawn into this debate, I was a member of J-List for some time, but never when I was writing for The Post. I’d originally signed up as a member when I was at TPM, and remained one after The Washington Post Company hired me to write for WhoRunsGov. But I almost never participated — I was a lurker — and I removed myself from the list well before my blog was moved over to The Post proper, mainly because I was sick of being overwhelmed by emails.

Smells like BULLSHIT.

This guy completely misses the point.

No he doesn't. His job is to push the Big Lie.

You know this JournoList stuff was a direct hit because of the fierce counteroffensive they are mounting.

Full disclosure: I was associated with J-List myself, and I described the timeline of that association right here.

*I was a part of an actual conspiracy, but the real danger is that imaginary one that lives in Hillary Clinton's head.*

Umm ... okay.

Hey Greg, you flack. If corporate types got together and discussed the competition they couldn’t use Klein’s “we’re not here to do that” excuse when they were charged with price fixing, forcing out the competition or manipulating stocks.
