With Congress set to break for its lengthy August recess, Democratic strategists have formulated a summer strategy to try to make the most of the interlude on Capitol Hill.
In a six-week, phased messaging campaign, Democrats will continue to hammer the Republican agenda as one that seeks a return to failed Bush-era policies, as well as pressure the GOP to provide more concrete details of specific agenda points and how they would work.
"The pressure is going to be on Republicans to explain what they would do if they were given back the keys to the car," a Democratic aide told The Hill, using rhetoric similar to an Obama speech from March.
"That's something that didn't happen last August," the aide continued, referring to a period when loud, frustrated groups of constituents repeatedly bombarded Democratic legislators at town hall meetings over the ongoing debate over health care reform.
The Hill reports:
Democrats will highlight a specific theme each week of the recess. The first will be the party's "Make it in America" manufacturing initiative, followed by Social Security, consumer protection, small businesses, troops and veterans, and jobs and the economy. The party is trying to brand its agenda as one centered around "fighting for the middle class." Republicans were quick to downplay the potential effectiveness of the strategy, claiming that large sections of the public are already disenchanted with Democrats due to the poor state of the economy.
"Even if House Democrats choose to confront their constituents this August, they aren't likely to find a receptive audience to this desperate 'strategy' to distract voters from their job-killing economic policies," NRCC spokesman Paul Lindsay told The Hill. "Republican candidates will continue listening to the concerns of American taxpayers and talking about their solutions to getting our economy moving again."

Park it and go home.
If the Rs do nothing more than park the car in the driveway, shut off the engine to saveg gas and block the path for any more socialist garbage to get through, that’d be fine by me.
Oh brother more messaging for the Stupid party. They are on there way to a monumental loss in November. I saw some idiot on CNN proclaim that the Dems have lost the House now it’s a fall back position of protecting the Senate in the November elections. What would be better is the Pubbies just coming up short and not giving Obama any way of blaming them and not being able to pass squat. 2012 we throw his milk chocolate rear out of the Whitehouse and send his party out with them.
The title says "Democrats Draw Up Blueprints For Summer Messaging Campaign"
Was "Messaging" supposed to mean "get a massage", like Al Gore was hoping to do previously with a massage therapist (on several occassions apparently)?
Or were the Democrats working on the "Message" they want to send...message, as in a communication?
I think it should probably be "Massaging" because, per FreeDictionary.com, massaging means:
tr.v. mas·saged, mas·sag·ing, mas·sag·es
1. To give a massage to.
2. To treat by means of a massage.
3. To coddle or cajole.
4. To manipulate (data, for example): Pollsters massaged the numbers to favor their candidate.
I guess it doesn't really matter. The most important message has been sent AND received...and now, in November, it's our turn to send a message...
Wow...they even GIFT wrapped this election...
...it's an easy, recalled from the 1980's response...
...all a GOP candidate has to do is look into the camera and say, in the (slightly adjusted) words of Reagan...
Are you better off NOW than you were four two years ago?
The campaign will go like this:
Blah, blah, blah, blah Bush blah, blah, Cheney, blah, blah, blah, blah Bush, blah, blah, blah, blah, Bush, blah, blah, blah, Cheney, etc.
I absolutely LOVE it! They have nothing. This blame Bush mantra really isn’t resonating, especially not with independents. I hope they keep pounding that ‘failed Bush policies that got us into this mess’ because Republicans can keep pointing out that unemployment in 2008 was half what it is now.
With the majority of Americans tired of the one-party rule in Washington, especially with one that does not reflect the citizenry, I don’t see how the Democrats can spin this. America saw what the Democrats did to us when they had unchecked power. I think it will be a long time (unfortunately for us) that independents will want to let that happen again on either side.
Exactly I guess we all needs signs saying something like ....back when unemployment was under 6%? Back when gas was $1.45 a gallon in Jan ‘07 when the democrats took control of Congress? Back to 14000 stockmarket? Ther are lots of wonderful things to use here.
I hope everyone drawing an unemployment check sends pelosi a note telling her how much their checks help to stimulate the economy. Wonder if dudd and funk put forth legislation yet to help those drawing unemployment checks buy houses.
The Kenyan: Things could be worse.
Winning expression, no?
LOL. Since they already crashed it into a tree....
