So Mitt Romney - the venture capitalist guru who never sweats - leads all Republicans in a new Zogby poll that has him within striking distance of Obama, 45-43.
Can anyone be surprised? The economys a mess. Were basket cases over keeping jobs and homes. Obamas reduced to courting Whoopi and Barbara Walters today on The View, hoping a cozy chat will reassure the wives of independents and/or Tea Party sympathizers whove abandoned the president in droves.
Close your eyes. Envision, for a second, the best known GOP contenders: Sarah Palin, Mike Huckabee, Newt Gingrich, Ron Paul. On the Ward Cleaver Reassurance Scale, none comes anywhere close to impeccable and unflappable Mitt with his crisp Power Point efficiency, his broad shoulders, his Vanilla Cokes, his beatific wife, and all those strapping sons with Talbots wives and Pottery Barn kids.

I needed a laugh.
This is madness.....!!!
Mad-cow disease?
Mitt is no Obi-Wan....
Mitt is the wrong man for the wrong time in the wrong place
and many FR secretly wishes he is the man come Jan 20th 2013!!
Oh PLEASE.
Thanks Boston Herald!
You’re always looking out for the Conservatives.
They are not going to let anybody in 'striking distance' on 0bama.
Never listen to people who want to see you fail.
Is hope the word they really wanted to use? Someone has give hope a bad name lately.
Well I broke my toe last night and now my stomach hurts.
I’m done laughing and this a poor joke.
Romney is not our vehicle nor a leader. Were he you might find him on TV spouting his ideas but he is an opportunist and a vacuous gas bag.
He spent his entire campaign being jovial, gregarious and wanting to liked with his “Me too” and “I agree” schtick.
Blech!
One speech that made you stand up and go “Yeah! Now there is some fire and that’s what I want!”
To bad it was a concession speech.
You deserve to lose.... Loser.
All joking aside, Romney is the early favorite for the nomination. That says loads about the GOP right there, but then so did McCain’s nomination.
Those stats sound about right. He spent most of his time glad handing, being respectful and in general, in agreement with almost no daylight between him and anyone else.
No backbone and narrow minded enough to see through a keyhole at 100 yards.
He should focus on becoming a spokesman for a hair gel company.
*Slick Willard Laugh Riot Alert*
Was Paul Ryan on the list?
If this is who the GOP nominates, then there is no hope.
He is the only for liberals in 2012...
Well we tried running a dinosaur against the snake last time. The choices now seem to be another dinosaur, a chameleon, a dodo bird, a milquetoast and a snake oil salesman.
dodo bird. ROFL
Insane. Simply nsane.
Gee, how is that RomneyCare helping their economy?
Thats the thing with RINO’s, they can pretend to be “fiscal conservatives” but they will do things like RomneyCare and amnesty for illegals that wreck the economy.
Hussein's fault? (FINALLY?)
OK, I pictured it...
Then I had a sudden urge to smoke dope, tie-dye my t-shirts and grow a ponytail, so I stopped.
Mitt?
Can I get a HE** NO!! here?

If Mittens is our only hope, I might as well buy a case of Everclear and end it all by drinking it all down in one sitting.
OF course the primary reason that these people publish such tripe is because they WANT us conservative and libertarian types to despair.
Wheres the barf warning???? The mormon freepers will be here any minute to bump and ping it.
Are there any sane people in Massachusetts?
i wouldn’t vote for that piece of shit if you put a gun to my head!!

Not for the GOP anyway.

Well, he cannot go tout viagra, as another losing GOP candidate has that gig locked up already, assuming he is still alive. Also, if Romney took viagra he would turn into a statue.
When Palin made her first appearance as McCain’s running mate, Eagan and her wussy radio partner cut to it live, but their mikes were still on. The audience was treated to hearing these two champions of the little guy and meaningful political discussion (they were forever whining about the lack of content in political discourse) mocking the way Palin’s children were dressed, which ended Eagan’s feminist BS forever. I stopped listening to their show that day.
The funny thing is that many of the things conservatives hate about Romney’s policies have already been enacted by Obama. So a Romney presidency can seemingly be no worse than what we have now.
And AFAIK, Mormons like guns, individual freedoms and want to protect the rights of the state of Utah. So we might get some libertarian leaning anti-statist, anti-federalist pro 2A and state’s rights appointments onto the USSC... slightly better than Obama.
after 4 hours. LOL
This will thrill the anti-palin crowd.
Like it or not, it’s reality. To run for president you need name recognition, funding, and a national organization. Romney has each.
Palin has name recognition, and MAY or may not, be building an organization. Funding so far isn’t there. I think Palin and Romney will eventually make a deal.
The also-rans don’t even factor in as much as Ron Paul would like it to be otherwise.
As things stand now Romney is the only game in town.

The Boston Globe is the city’s democrat paper. The Boston Herald is the home of opinion like Howie Carr. FR likes the Herald usually since it is hostile to the Kennedys, Kerry, and Obama. But if it’s speaking favorably to Romney, by all means throw it under the bus too. Right ?
nope... NOT a northeastern anything. He’s a RINO. Romneycare is like obamacare. He believes that government just needs to be run by better people instead of getting the heck out of the way and trusting the American people.
Nominating Mitt Romney will kill the GOP, as it is not serious about actually standing up for its ideals. The LAST thing PUBs need is ANOTHER RINO to wage a half-hearted, losing campaign.

The Massachusetts Republican Party died last Tuesday.
The cause of death: failed leadership.
The party is survived by a few leftover legislators
and a handful of county officials and grassroots activists
who have been ignored for years.
Services will be public and a mass exodus of taxpayers will follow.
In lieu of flowers, send messages to Republican voters
warning them about a certain presidential candidate named Romney.
- Boston Herald, 11/12/2006
"In 2006, while Romney was chairman of the National Republican
Governors Association - a group dedicated to electing more
Republican governors - his own hand-picked Republican successor
as governor lost badly to the Democrat, despite the fact that Republicans
have held the governorship in Massachusetts since 1990. Romney largely
ignored the Massachusetts elections and spent most of the time
during the campaign out of state building his presidential campaign.
He came back and publicly campaigned for the Republican candidate
the day before the general election!
Locally, this is a rebuke to Mitt Romney and checking out within six months
after being elected and having accomplished almost nothing,
[Jim] Rappaport [former chairman of the state Republican Party]."
- Boston Globe, 11/8/2006
"Governor Mitt Romney, who touts his conservative credentials to out-of-state Republicans,
has passed over GOP lawyers for three-quarters of the 36 judicial vacancies he has faced,
instead tapping registered Democrats or independents -- including two gay lawyers who
have supported expanded same-sex rights, a Globe review of the nominations has found.
Of the 36 people Romney named to be judges or clerk magistrates, 23 are either registered Democrats
or unenrolled voters who have made multiple contributions to Democratic politicians
or who voted in Democratic primaries, state and local records show.
In all, he has nominated nine registered Republicans, 13 unenrolled voters,
and 14 registered Democrats."

Romney Rewards one of the State's Leading Anti-Marriage Attorneys by Making him a Judge
Romney told the U.S. Senate on June 22, 2004, that the "real threat to the States is not the
constitutional amendment process, in which the states participate,
but activist judges who disregard the law and redefine marriage . . ."
Romney sounds tough but yet he had no qualms advancing the legal career of one
of the leading anti-marriage attorneys. He nominated Stephen Abany to a District Court.
Abany has been a key player in the Massachusetts Lesbian and Gay Bar Association which,
in its own words, is "dedicated to ensuring that the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court decision
on marriage equality is upheld, and that any anti-gay amendment or legislation is defeated."
- U.S. Senate testimony by Gov. Mitt Romney, 6/22/2004 P>
"Romney announces he won't fill judicial vacancies before term ends
Despite his rhetoric about judicial activism, Romney announced that
he won't fill all the remaining vacancies during his term - but instead
leave them for his liberal Democrat successor!
Governor Mitt Romney pledged yesterday not to make a flurry of lame-duck
judicial appointments in the final days of his administration . . . David Yas,
editor of Lawyers Weekly, said Romney is "bucking tradition" by resisting the urge to
fill all remaining judgeships. "It is a tradition for governors to use that power to appoint judges
aggressively in the waning moments of their administration," Yas said.
He added that Romney has been criticized for failing to make judicial appointments.
"The legal community has consistently criticized him for not filling open seats quickly enough
and being a little too painstaking in the process and being dismissive of the input of the
Judicial Nominating Commission," Yas said.

At this point, four years ago, we were "guaranteed" a Guiliani/Clinton matchup.
I think it's safe to say that all of this talk is premature before the primary campaigns even start. Can we get through the 2010 mid-term elections first, before we start premature speculation on hypothetical "front-runners" and "matchups"?
