Rep. Michael McCaul, R-Texas, ranking member on the House Committee on Standards of Official Conduct, said Rangel was given an opportunity to settle charges during the investigative process, and that time has passed.
"Let me be clear that Mr. Rangel under these rules was given opportunities to negotiate a settlement during the investigation. Let me be clear that I did not participate in any attempts to cut a back room deal behind closed doors," McCaul said at the start of a hearing on possible corruption charges.
McCaul said it's not lost on any member of the panel that the approval rating of Congress is at an all time low, and requires the probe, which has involved 28,000 pages of documents and 60 meetings as well as one deposition from Rangel, be fair and open.
Committee Chairwoman [Democrat] Zoe Lofgren added that the "task is to determine whether Rangel violated that trust."

It seems ridiculous that he had an opportunity to make a deal, even more so that it was time-limited and he let his time expire. But now that that’s happened, THROW THE BOOK AT HIM!
Don't get me wrong... I just don't understand how it is that they haven't covered for him.
Let’s see if this law-breaker actually gets to pay for his transgressions.
"...COULD POSSIBLY FACE EXPULSION"???????
Possibly???
Could he???
Golly gee wilikers......................really????
I’ll believe it when I see it. How many times has Lucy moved the football?
I hope this drags out all summer long, and ol’ gravel voice becomes the poster child for the Culture of Corruption inherent in the party that passed Obamacare while reveling in their sleaze and dishonor.
If enough pressure goes on the dems force them into exacting a decent penalty on Rangel, you can count on Charlie to be arrogant enough to fight back. This has major Popcorn Potential.
Crap! Which is it?
Rangel says no plea deal yet to ethics charges
Breaking-FNC—Rangel has struck a deal
No,
It means he’s bought himself a little more time til the heat on the dems get so hot that they turn on the bastard.
The Ethics Committee is evenly divided between Democrats and Republicans.
Watch it guys. CR is not looking very good. He can have a massive H atack and then we will all be the evil ones for killing poor ole charlie. But, Way to go Repubs.
This filth has managed to hang in there for an incredibly long time after his office was raided. That would never be the case with a Republican.
Well this is a pretty little pickle. Dems can either A> Face an airing of the grievances, bombshells and whatnot in a public trial, or B> Appear to voters that they are letting yet another politician get away with murder knowing full well what voters think of politicians in general. September should be interesting.

Why was he given a chance to make a deal? I am sure they would not have given any of US the same opportunity. Besides, I’m not so sure they haven’t cut him one anyway.
