That's not accurate. As I understand it, the government has developed reliable information that his homosexuality, and his anger over the DADT issue, was at least an element in his motivation to create this leak. His homosexuality is directly tied to his dereliction of duty and failure to obey orders.

It's not his rank that surprises me, so much as it is his other obviously disqualifying characteristics that should have prevented him from getting a security clearance.
