Mod note: The headline originally read: Fox News to move to Thomas' front-row briefing room seat

The White House Correspondents Association voted unanimously Sunday afternoon to move Fox News to the front row of the White House briefing room.

The seating change was prompted by the resignation of veteran UPI reporter Helen Thomas.

According to Ed Henry, the senior White House correspondent for CNN and member of the WHCA board, the Associated Press will move to the front-row middle seat formerly occupied by Thomas.

Fox News will replace the AP in its former seat, also in the front row, and NPR, which lobbied for Thomas' seat along with Fox and Bloomberg News, will take Fox's former seat in the second row.

The 2010-2011 WHCA board includes representatives from USA Today, Reuters, C-SPAN, the New York Times, Politico, Time Magazine, NPR and the DC Examiner.

Thomas, a longtime critic of Israeli foreign policy, had resigned in late May after a video clip in which she said that Israelis should "get the hell out of Palestine" and "go home" -- to Europe, the United States and other places -- surfaced on the internet.

Liberal groups had lobbied for NPR's placement in the front row over Fox, which one petition called a "right-wing propaganda outlet."

given how fnc has been omitting stories to match cnn and msnbc, I am not impressed.

I’d almost like to see that specific seat dedicated to the memory of Tony Snow. He was a great press sec, commentator, speech-writer and an all-around gentleman. I still miss him.

Occupying a seat doesn’t necessarily mean that they will be called upon to ask questions...

This is the right decision. I’m sorry to see the Washington Times move from the 3rd row to the 4th row, but it wasn’t unexpected. They have SERIOUSLY cut back on their news-gathering resources, and from what I understand they virtually never travel with the President. Traditionally, those first few rows always go to news organizations that invest the most in the WH coverage.

“Wendell Goler (sp?) and Major Garrett will do a terrific job”

Sometimes Garrett comes across as being intimidated by the wimp or otherwise afraid of ruffling the feathers of Obamaites or his “colleagues” (enemies) in the dinosaur media. Fair and balanced as perceived by them means being a lumbusco to Obamaites. In English, that is a suck@$$.

The headline is a little misleading. AP is moving to Thomas’ old seat (ewwww) and Fox is moving to AP’s old seat.

People I follow on Twitter (for non-political reasons) were trying to gin up signatures on a petition to give Helen’s seat to NPR because “Fox didn’t deserve it.” Snicker.

Liberals cannot handle a news organization that diverts from the Democratic party line even a little bit, unless that diversion is to the left.

I say seat that cute, tall, thin, Harold Lloyd, owlish, nerdy-looking guy with the horn-rimmed spectacles who trails the lib politicians right up to their office or car doors with his Fox microphone in hand.......getting a door slammed in his face every time.

He's like a mustard plaster with his questions and would drive Obama nuts from the front seat by just staring at him through those coke-bottom eyeglasses.

I’m glad Fox will be there, but we’ll see how Gibbs treats them. Not long ago Journo-List wanted The FCC to pull the plug on FOX. Just this week everyone was acting like Fox was responsible for Sherrod being fired. Something smells funny here. I know Fox can handle themselves, but we’ll see if they use this situation to try to discredit the network.

Griff Jenkins? He was a very close friend of Tony Snow.
