TOKYO (AP) — Survivors of the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki are welcoming a decision by the United States to send its first ever delegation to a ceremony marking the anniversary of the attacks, but are asking for something they aren't likely to get — an apology.

Tokyo has praised the decision to send U.S. Ambassador John Roos to the Hiroshima anniversary on Friday, though some survivors of the attack, which is seen by many in Japan as an unjustified use of excessive force against a civilian population, say they have mixed feelings.

Japan knows the "Apologizer in Chief" is currently in the whitehouse so they know odds are good.

But, has Japan ever apologized for their war crimes against US and other allied forces in WW2 like their treatment of and execution of POWs? Have they ever apologized for the sneak attack at Pearl Harbor?

Have they ever apologized for crimes against civilians during ww2 like massacres in locations like Naking, China or the Philippines, or forcing Korean women to be sex slaves for officers.

If we hadn't dropped the big ones and ended the war, my dad would have been part of the invasion force and would have probably been slaughtered on the beaches with the rest of our troops. From what I hear, Normandy was at least possible to invade and succeed. Japan's coast was impossible.

The point about the Japanese lives saved often gets lost. The Japanese plan for the defense of the Home Islands, Ketsu-go, included high school girls charging the Americans with spears. Imagine how sickening would’ve been a battle between soldiers and Marines with machine guns and flame-throwers and civilians with spears.

Indeed, modern day Japanese should well appreciate the efficiency of those missions ;)

Better still to show how sorry we are we should let the Japanese erect a Shinto shrine honoring their war dead right next to the USS Arizona Memorial at Pearl Harbor. Hey it works at ground zero in New York.

History has proven over and over that his decision saved thousands of American lives that would have been ended during an Invasion not to mention the millions of Japanese lives ended as collateral damage.

We may very well have had to fight in Japan twice.

Had we invaded, the Soviets would have also joined the fight, and thus, Japan would most likely have been divided, like Korea and Germany. And of course, the Communists would have gone for the whole thing in a civil war, just like in Korea.

Beat me to it!

They surrendered but that was pretty much it. I’ll have to give my 85 year old WWII Uncle a call. He’ll know.

Let’s not forget that the Soviets had just declared war on Japan. Prolonging the end of the war would have surely caused a splitting of Japan much like Germany.

Why no apology from the One? He has apologized for this country’s existence to every wacko on the planet who hates our guts.

I have no problem with an American delegation going there.

So long as they fly to Japan in the Enola Gay.

Japanese atrocities aside, if the Japanese had possessed the bomb back then, they would not have hesitated to drop it on Boston or New York.

I see the Japanese people in two ways.

There are the Japanese folks that are our friends of today and......... there were the Jap bastards that attacked my country, ultimately causing the deaths of millions.

The former may shake my hand, the latter may rot in hell.

I am so damn sick of this Obama apology crap. I am proud of my country and that bastard in the White House needs to get the hell out.
