Senate to confirm Kagan as court's 4th-ever woman (AP Puff Piece Alert)

Her confirmation assured, Elena Kagan is on the brink of becoming the fourth woman ever to serve as a Supreme Court justice.

The Senate is set Thursday to confirm President Barack Obama's nominee, whose addition to the court will mark the first time three female justices have served concurrently. Nearly all Democrats, the Senate's two independents and a handful of Republicans are backing her.

The vote is to be one of the Senate's last actions before its members depart for a monthlong vacation.

Republicans have harshly criticized Kagan, 50, as a political activist who would be unable to put aside her liberal views and render impartial decisions. Democrats defend the former Harvard Law School dean as a highly qualified legal scholar who could help bring consensus to the polarized court.

She's not expected to alter the ideological balance there as she succeeds retired Justice John Paul Stevens, who is regarded as a leader of the court's liberal wing.

Kagan's nomination to a lifetime seat on the nation's highest court has garnered relatively little notice this summer, with the public and elected officials preoccupied by bad economic news and the Gulf oil spill, and many lawmakers nervously eyeing the November midterm congressional elections.

Conservatives should go ahead and pursue investigations with a view to forcing her out. She is a crook!

I am FURIOUS about this rubber stamp appointment! Why such concern about another woman on the court?

Why not a NATIVE AMERICAN on the court?

“A Republican filibuster of Elena Kagan would be “an unheard of, dirty thing to do,” Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) said.”

Stopping Kagan has to be the most meritorious reason in Hatch’s 34 years in the Senate to use the filibuster and this is his response. What a turncoat, asinine, mind-numbingly idiotic attitude.

People of Utah, please do the nation a favor and get this guy out of the senate.

Yes, saw that, but not that impressed. SG would have necessarily been party to such suits. However, it does raise the question of whether she's getting payback. Another black mark on an increasingly black record for Zero.

I expect investigations next year, provided Dems lose control of the House and/or Senate.

Keep digging, Pajamhadeen, and they will all fall down.

I honestly think if people keep digging dirt on her, she will have to resign. She has broken the law several times, from what we know so far, and the record keeps looking dirtier the more we hear. Just don’t think a known criminal/activist/pervert can sit on the bench and everybody keep a straight face.

Kagan and Sotomayor would have to recuse themselves from any decision relating to Zero’s eligibility. Kagan, especially, since, according to World Net Daily today, she was named as a co-defendant in several suits about Zero’s eligibility.

Has anyone examined her private parts to determine if she really female? We may have our first transgendered member of the Supreme Court.
