Bailed Out Firms Spend Millions on Political Causes, Federal Lobbying
FOX NEWS ^ | Aug. 6, 2010 | Stephen Clark

Several companies that escaped financial failure two years ago through massive taxpayer-funded bailouts are spending millions of dollars to make donations to political causes and even some candidates' campaigns.

General Motors, Chrysler and Citigroup are just three of the biggest bailout recipients who have continued to remain politically active, through their political action committees, federal lobbying or direct donations to the pet projects of lawmakers.

The potential public relations disaster for firms spending big dollars on political causes and federal lobbying after being extended a taxpayer lifeline has led some, such as AIG, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, to suspend their political activities until they pay the government back in full.

Other companies, however, defend their political engagement by saying their political action committees are voluntary groups that employees use to support political causes, that their federal lobbying is necessary to keep Congress informed of their mission, and that donations to pet projects are going to a good cause.

But critics say they doubt the logic

Fannie Mae, Citigroup, Chrysler, Gm....WHAT a scam! The taxpayer gets to finance politicians they don't pick AGAIN. Fannie Mae may have suspended 'political contributions' this year, but I'll bet they're still handing out the millions they always have to 'non profits'.

BTW....they all give BIG $$$ to Maldef, LaRaza, etc. and John McCain and many of his democrat compadres.

A couple more tidbits from the article...

GM gave $41,000 to groups associated with lawmakers this year... Most of that money, $36,000, went to the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation

Citigroup spent $3.03 million on federal lobbying this year. Last year $5.56 million.

In addition to be wealth redistribution, the bails outs were a democrat graft scheme where they're using the bailed out companies to launder public money back to their own campaigns as political donations.

If there were any justice in the nation 99% of democrats and 89% of republicans would be behind bars (on the small room side).

I’m sure any time now the GOP will be appointing a special prosecutor to investigate ethics violations and the possibility of illegal kickbacks and campaign funding.

oh yea, the GOP has no balls.

Never mind.

The federal government is donating money to itself via GM. Talk about a shell game!

Gosh, I’m sure that’s just something that happened, that it wasn’t planned by the Obama administration and its congressional cronies. Thanks AuntB.

The GOP does not have the power to do that now.

It’s going to be tough in November. Barack the Kenyan and his commie ‘RATS took all the money away from Americans and gave it to his “U.S. citizens” and union pigs.

This was the goal of the bailouts from the get go.

Mission accomplished.

Wasn’t that the plan? Anyone who thought differently needs their head examined.
