As Republican members of Congress press for changes to the 14th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution, preventing automatic citizenship for babies born to illegal immigrants, opponents insist the debate is not really about babies.
Instead, they say it is about politics and votes – not fixing the immigration system.
Still, the debate could resonate in Texas, where not only 1.5 million illegal immigrants are estimated to reside but at least 60,000 babies are added to their households annually.
Parkland Memorial Hospital delivers more of those babies than any other hospital in the state. Last year at Parkland, 11,071 babies were born to women who were noncitizens, about 74 percent of total deliveries. Most of these women are believed to be in the country illegally.

The privilege of citizenship should be based on something more than when your momma pops you out.
Actually conservatives want the government to quit making a joke of the 14th amendment and start applying it as it was written. It never allowed for anchor babies of illegals, in fact was written in such a way as to prevent that.
Maybe it’s time for Mexican illegal internment camps? How else are you going to handle this? They say they can’t round up 12 million illegals. They are aboslutely right. You can’t round them up and deport them........ unless you start the process. If they wanted to start this process, all they have to do is include American citizens in the process and they would have all the help they needed. At the same time, secure the border and make our laws mirror the country that the illegals are coming from.

I swear, when this Plyler vs. Doe case was decided, the justices claimed it was no big deal because only 36,000 kids in the United States were affected by it. (The public schooling part) That is supposedly what made it okay.

If Mexico has no jurisdiction, then why the hell is Calderon setting up weekends (like here in S. Utah) for the Mexican Consulate to issue Matricula Consular cards, and getting the amigos passports to travel between here and Mexico? Why then, are they going into court to advocate on behalf of their migrants, if Mexico has no jurisdiction?
WTF?
If this disgeraceful practice was instantly curtailed, most of the invaders would vamoose!
Just think, in another 15 years or so, (maybe earlier than that) these same "citizens" will have quadrupled that number by having even more of their spawn.
As it is, corporate personhood is also granted by the 14th, the GOP, I doubt will want to change that.

If existing laws on employment were enforced, 50% of them would self-deport. If we cleared up the 14th amendment, the rest would go.

If people in the rest of the US could see what was going on down here, they would rip their hair out. I’m nearly ready to move back to Ohio to escape this, despite the horrible winters.
When I lived in NE Ohio, until fall of 2006, I couldn’t really understand the big deal, even though I had a close friend in SD, who warned me. Illegal immigration complants were racist, in my mind.
Then I moved here. Holy shit. Folks, it’s a whole other world out there.
I am not heartless. I was on site when ICE busted our place and dragged some of my coworkers away. I was shook up the rest of the day.
That said, finding a job without being bilingual is a challenge. The stories about homes overstuffed with people are no joke. I learned what the term “hotsheeting” was when I moved here. It is also true that nearly all amigos shop for groceries with a foodstamp card (can’t remember what they call it here); I am behind them in line every day. It is also true that they get preferential treatment in ERs. I personaly witnessed an English speaking woman being turned away in Dixie Medical Center because she had no insurance for her child, with 75% of the waiting room being Spanish speaking.
There is NO DAY that I go out to run errands without seeing a mom who is Latino, pushing a stroller with a youngster, with two little ones walking with her. And, she is pregnant. Always pregnant. I love babies as much as anyone, I only had one because that is what we could afford. It never occured to me to have more than that, and hand taxpayers the bill.
Our schools here are ruined, with the ESL requirements. Utah looks the other way on illegals in order to bring converts to the “faith.” Plus, LDS folks are frugal and cheap labor doesn’t bug them. Just ask a waitress. They know if you are from “back east” by how you tip. Mormon’s tip 10% and no more. Their explanation is “The Lord only gets 10%, so that should be good enough for YOU!” I grew up back east; the only way I’d tip 10% is if the server threw the food in my face. I taught my son to calculate a 20% tip when he was 9 years old!
Stop hiring them. Let the wages rise. And quit sticking the taxpayers with the “benefit package.”
The numbers are suspect. San Antonio only shows a little over 1000 births for illegals and it is one of the cities with a lot of them.
Perhaps SA isn’t not even inquiring about citizenship and only recording info if it is offered.

It is suspect! San Antonio is little Mexico. I have a liberal morderate friend that lives there(I’m in Dallas) and she says even she’s sick of it and how awful it is.
I’m all for ending the anchor baby syndrome, but let me ask this of the Graham crowd. What happens when the illegals who have the babies get amnesty? ...Stop amnesty, and stop giving citizenship to illegals. This isn’t about the logistics of deporting 20 million people. It is about preserving our sovereignty and our future, and the situation is getting desperate, especially for the millions of Americans who can’t find work. Sure, fix the anchor baby glitch. It should have been done a decades ago. And once that is fixed, fix the stupidity that makes people think amnesty is a solution.
Question..........what do the people of Utah say about the illegals? Do they want them out or do they just turn their back? Do they care if all their money, tax money, goes to support the illegals? There has to be a limit as to what they will take.
I know were we live, Northern California, everyone I talk to is tired of it and want it stopped. With all the vineyards, casino’s going in, illegals are flocking to this area........as is crime. Car thefts, home breakins, etc.
The people here are absolutely FUMING.
They see what I see (as a transplant). Honest to God, if you don’t live near the border, you just can’t imagine.

Here’s something you don’t know. The national unemployment rate is supposedly 9.5%. Here in Washington county...St. George, the rate is 9.3%
San Antonio has been majority Hispanic for years but it is made up of mostly multiple-generation, native born Hispanics. Unlike Houston, where I live, almost everyone there speaks English. You do not find a lot of signs in Spanish there either like you do in Houston.
