Abandon Earth or Face Extinction, Stephen Hawking Warns
FoxNews ^

It's time to abandon Earth, warned the world's most famous theoretical physicist.

In an interview with website Big Think, Stephen Hawking warned that the long-term future of the planet is in outer space.

"It will be difficult enough to avoid disaster on planet Earth in the next hundred years, let alone the next thousand, or million. The human race shouldn't have all its eggs in one basket, or on one planet," he said.

"I see great dangers for the human race," Hawking said. "There have been a number of times in the past when its survival has been a question of touch and go. The Cuban missile crisis in 1963 was one of these. The frequency of such occasions is likely to increase in the future."

The earth is a lot more robust than Mr. Hawing.

I’ll only abandon Earth if we can leave all of the liberal idiots behind.

Short term he’s full of crap, and that is irresponsible of someone with his stature in science.

Very long term he is correct, nothing we need to panic over that is certain. LOL

All I can think is he wants to light a fire under our asses to start heading out of low earth orbit again and actually GOING places.

The planet will eventually die but I don’t think we’ll be around at that point. If we haven’t figured out how to get off this rock in the next thousand years, let alone million years it will probably because we’ve joined the dinosaurs.

“world’s most famous theoretical physicist.”

I guess theoretically it could be done but the pragmatism in me does not see a practical application. to achieve his objective.

I have always have had a deep suspicion about what this man “says”. How do we really know if what is being attributed to him saying is really from him and not someone using him to push an agenda?

I somewhat agree with Hawking but for different reasons.

I do think that mankind can, and should, eventually spread to other planets. The sun brightens over time, and in 500 million to a billion years, Earth will be too hot no matter what Al Gore or anyone else says or does.

That’s FAR future stuff though.

Well, FWIW a man who can live over 40 years with ALS, which usually kills it’s victims in 5 years or less, is probably pretty robust himself!

Not too sure how “smart” Hawking is.

Just about nothing that he has promoted is factual nor real. He is a dreamer that believes his own dreams; that just makes him a typical leftist. (not smart)

There’s no point acting all surprised about it. All the planning charts and demolition orders have been on display in your local planning department in Alpha Centauri for fifty of your Earth years, so you’ve had plenty of time to lodge any formal complaint and it’s far too late to start making a fuss about it now.

That’s great advice, Mr. Hawking, but Obama said NASA’s prime goal is to make muslims feel good about their contributions to whatever.

So now what?

I still bet that the earth is around long after Mr. Hawking is not, or you or I for that matter.
