First Lady Michelle Obama took a lot of grief for her decision to vacation in Spain last week, a glitzy getaway that prompted one New York Daily News columnist to liken her to Marie Antoinette. But now we're learning more about the trip, which, despite the furor over its alleged excess, seems to have been launched with good intentions.
According to the Chicago Sun-Times' Lynn Sweet, the first lady made the trip because she wanted to spend time with her best friend, Chicago physician Anita Blanchard, who lost her father this summer. Blanchard (who is married to President Obama's best friend, Marty Nesbitt) planned a Spanish vacation with her daughter and invited the first lady and her daughters to come along. Michelle, who missed Blanchard's father's funeral in July, agreed and brought along her 9-year-old daughter, Sasha. The first couple's older daughter, Malia, is away at camp.

Yep! If the best friend were grieving, then why not invite her to stay at the White House for a week? I think that would have been a little classed than a tacky Five Star Money Hole that just happened to be hosting a Hollywood Glitteratti Shindig that very week with all of the Wonkette’s “Friends” attending in their Private Enery Efficent Flying Carpets! There is NOTHING HONEST OR TRUTHFUL ABOUT THESE TWO FRAUDS OCCUPYING THE WHITE HOUSE TODAY!
Considering the time it takes for secret services, etc. to put in place the security - I’m not buying this b.s. one bit. This was planned and they thought it would be all hunky dory - but it came back and bit her in her great big moocher ass.

Read post 38. Blanchard's as political as they come and she and her husband likely dreamed up this excuse because of the firestorm. Blanchard's husband is the ONE IN CHARGE of making Obama President in '12.

It’s very clear that the Obamas, the Administration and the Dems are fully convinced that the American public are a bunch of bloomin’ idiots that will buy into anything they roll out. After all, the bloomin’ idiot American public bought into hope and change. So, they just keep rolling it out...spending, radical left policies, party on, lie, blame Bush. I guess a night at the White House and a side trip to the Maryland Eastern Shore is too mundane to be a “treat” for a guest of Queen Obama and King Michelle.
Newsweek’s May 5 cover story professes to address Barack Obama’s “Bubba Gap,” the growing chasm between the would-be Democratic nominee and white “working class” voters. Evan Thomas, Holly Bailey, and Richard Wolffe don’t so much report on the gap as complain about hateful conservative rumor-mongering. The authors complain that Obama is not just running against Mrs. Clinton or Sen McCain, but against every historical hobgoblin who liberals can dig out of a musty closet. Obama’s not only opposed by George W. Bush, who hates pointy-headed intellectuals, but in Newsweek’s historical imagination by “demagogues like the anti-Semitic right-wing radio priest of the 1940s, Father Charles Coughlin; Red-baiter Sen. Joe McCarthy of Wisconsin, and race-baiter Gov. George Wallace of Alabama.”
The Newsweek team explicitly tied these men to the people who posted damaging tidbits from Reverend Wright sermons on YouTube and the spreaders of Obama’s leaked remarks on the Huffington Post about bitter people clinging to guns and religion. They began by lamenting the injustice that a black man, long so oppressed, could be accused of elitism:

My question is: why would a grieving woman WANT to go and party with Royals, not even a month after her father's death-a time when most people in mourning would be embarrassed to do so?
