Mayor Bloomberg's popularity rating has dropped to its lowest level in five years, in part because of his ardent defense of a proposed mosque several blocks from Ground Zero, according to a poll released yesterday.
New Yorkers' approval of their third-term mayor (pictured) dipped to 49 percent, down from 56 percent in April, as 53 percent of those surveyed said they disagree with his position on the mosque, according to the Marist survey.
"The mosque is not doing him any good . . . He's certainly on the wrong side of public opinion on that in the city," said pollster Lee Miringoff, director of Marist College's Institute for Public Opinion.
Miringoff said the mosque was not the only driving force behind the 7-point dip in the mayor's approval rating, noting the heaviest opposition to it comes from Republicans, who are largely still in Bloomberg's camp.
Of the Republicans polled, 74 percent were against building the mosque and an accompanying cultural center near Ground Zero, while half of the Democrats surveyed expressed opposition.

The "in your face" insistence on that particular location will not improve relations with the Islamic world, IMO.
Most likely 50% of the 49% still thinks he is just a news station owner or a Judge on Idol instead of the man that daily makes decision that effect controls of their livelihood.
The people are fed up with the democrat masquerading as a republican.
ONLY 53% oppose satan building a temple on Ground Zero? If ny gets hit again... I will only shed a tear for those Patriots that suffer. Screw ny... let them build back without our help and sympathy.

Maybe so, but most of these New Yorkers voted for the likes of Bloomberg, Chuckie, Hillary, and Obama AFTER 9/11!!! What were they thinking?
One thing that I have seen discussed in any of the commentary on this mosque is the fact that it will become a huge destination — a mecca, if you will — for Muslim visitors from all over the world.
For starters, think of the security issues at NYC airports with maybe a couple million devout (etc.) Muslims entering the city on tourist visas on a regular basis — maybe increasing on certain holidays or for certain events. Think of the many issues crowds of this size and ideology in the city’s financial district pose. What about trying to make sure these tourists actually leave the country when their visit to GZ Supermosque is over?
Just a few of the follow-on issues.

49% is still an outrageous number given the collapse of law and order in NYC. Murder rate rising along with all categories of crime.
And then the revolting commentary about the people who would dare to object to a mosque in the shadow of Ground Zero.

This is a call to action for all right thinking people in NYC to get the hell out.
Let them move to some other blue state where they can help tip the political balance back in the right direction.

Things we all need to know about this:
1) The mega-mosque imam is currently on a US State Department (US taxpayer - isn’t government great??) funded back to the Middle East to raise money to build the mega-mosque. Any guesses where the money will come from (can you say “terrorists”?)??
2) The mega-mosque imam has a history of anti-Americanism and refuses to acknowledge that Hamas is a terrorist organization.
3) The mega-mosque imam favors shariah law being introduced in and observed by Americans.
4) If the mega-mosque is built, New Yorkers in Manhattan will get to hear “Allahu Akbar” 5 times a day. Allahu Akbar means “God is Great”. It is also used by muslims as a battle cry. They screamed Allahu Akbar just before crashing the planes into the WTC towers. They cried Allahu Akbar while sawing off the living heads of Nick Berg and Daniel Pearl. And, by being allowed to build the mega-mosque near Ground Zero and calling out Allahu Akbar 5 times a day, they are telling muslims that America lost and they won.
After all, they got to build their mega-mosque near the site of their greatest victory in this war.
Allahu Akbar.
America lost.
For those who think this is about denying a religion the opportunity to build a meeting place, think again. There is more symbolism than just a building. For radical muslims, this is raising the Islamic flag over the Capitol building.
