Harry Reid: "I don't know how anyone of Hispanic heritage could be a Republican."
The Weekly Standard ^ | August 10, 2010 | John McCormack

Posted on 08/11/2010 3:21:53 AM PDT by Scanian

While campaigning in Nevada Tuesday, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid told an audience of mostly Hispanic voters: "I don't know how anyone of Hispanic heritage could be a Republican, okay. Do I need to say more?" Watch the video here:(snip)

Reid's racially-charged comments come as the Nevada Democrat is trying to boost Hispanic turnout in his bid for reelection this November. Polls show, however, that Reid's positions on immigration are very unpopular with Nevada voters in general. Reid supports the Obama administration's lawsuit against Arizona over its immigration law, but 63 percent of Nevada voters oppose the lawsuit, according to a Rasmussen poll.

Reid voted against a measure to complete a 700-mile fence along the Mexican border in May, but 68 percent of voters nationally support building a border fence, according to Rasmussen.

I don’t know how Harry Reid can call himself an American.

That’s alright, Harry. We don’t know how anyone of human origin could be a democrat, either.

Gee I don’t know....it might be freedom, self-reliance, responsibility for one’s actions, patriotism....

I wasn’t aware those virtues are off limits to Hispanics! I’ll go tell my husband who is “of Hispanic heritage”. Perhaps he’ll quit his job and resign his Navy commission so we can go on the dole like good families “of Hispanic heritage”.

And I don’t know how any person with 2 brain cells that talk to each other could be a Democrat.

The inherent assumption behind Reid’s statement is that “people of Hispanic heritage” are all on government assistance because they aren’t smart enough to succeed on their own.

Back about six or seven years ago, I got into a ‘friendly discussion’ with a woman who was a passenger on my shuttle van. She was a Democrat and a precinct officer in her voting district. I remember that she made a comment during our discussion similar to Mr. Ried’s....
“I don’t know how anyone who makes less than $25,000 a year could be a Republican.”
Now, at the time, I DID make less than $25,000 a year with a family (at that time) of 5 (now 6). I never understood the logic (or lack thereof) of her statement until just recently.
Not that it’s news to anyone here, but the Dems WANT you to be poor, they WANT you to be stuck in a job that you can’t advance in.

Reid is absolutely right.

Among other things, conservatives stand for the rule of law, legal citizenship, allegiance to America, smaller government, less welfare, and personal responsibility.

As far as I can see, the overwhelming majority of hispanics want nothing to do with anything remotely resembling this type of ideology; in fact, they actively subvert it.

"I don't know how anyone of Hispanic heritage could be a Republican, okay. Do I need to say more?"

This is why I feel it is almost a waste of time to write or contact my Senators, Levin(D) and Stabenow(D). They are not reading their letters or email, and are not listening to any points of logic in phone calls either. Their minds are closed to any discourse, just like Obama's.

but the Dems WANT you to be poor, they WANT you to be stuck in a job that you can’t advance in.

Yes....that is almost true....but a valid opinion.

They also want those statistically judged as "poor" to be getting all manner of federal and state aide. In that manner, 1) the dems can "buy" their votes, and 2)keep the poor dependent on the dems for their very existence.
However, if these folks do manage to rise above "poor", they'll be expected to pay more than their fair share back into the "poor box" because it was the federal and state aide that allowed them to rise - not their own initiative.

Kind of a "damned if you do, and damned if you dont'" scenario.

And don't you think the dems may know it!!

What puzzles me is how a moron like Reid got himself elected to the US Senate.

But then I remembered that about 80 of those folks are as crazy as s**thouse rats.
