Beijing furious over US exercises

China is furious at the prospect of further naval exercises between the US and South Korea in the Yellow Sea. Military manoeuvres last month came as the US took sides with Vietnam, Malaysia and other countries in their long disputes with China over control of areas of the resource-rich South China Sea.

This week, the George Washington engaged in naval exercises with the country's former enemy Vietnam. Last month, the US carrier was at the centre of initial exercises with South Korea aimed at agitating North Korea, which sunk the naval ship Cheonan in May, killing 46 people.

0bama is trying to instigate a confrontation that will make him appear “presidential” to raise his approval numbers.

Those who are happy with this are on 0’s side.

The Chinese need to get a clue. If they convert to Islam, then Obama will do what they want doublequick.

Though it feels good to see the Chinese get their knickers in twist, it is not a good idea to taunt them so aggressively. Obama is going to get us into a totally unnecessary and destructive war.

The oriental mindset is so different from the Western mindset. China probably feels it’s a real trip to taunt Obama for the fifth or sixth time, while Obama couldn’t give a crap.

Ya know, come to think of it, there’s prolly a reason why the Bummer is thumbing his nose at China but not, say, Cuba or various other little communist states. And that is because unlike the others, China is quasi-capitalist. Capitalism is just plain bad and needs to be extirpated from any self respecting communism, so out comes the tongue, the thumb goes to the nose, and the fingers waggle.

Which for China is a game of “chicken” (and Bummer knows it). Their system is a precarious house of cards. A trade war wouldn’t just damage China, it would flatten China.

What really scares china is not the war games but the slow steady shift to manufacturing in other more friendly and cheaper countries!

Thanks TigerLikesRooster. Hoist on their own petard — they do nothing about their client state North Korea’s crimes, they’re humiliated in “their” sphere. And it is going to get much worse for the regime, imho.

I would argue the Chinese response is the same bravado as the naval exercises.

The world knows that Obama lacks the courage and ability to lead a war. He can do his best to pretend he knows what he is doing by brandishing his piece and flash gang signals. But that is it just flash and false bravado.

So it’s O.K. for the Communist Chinese to sleep in the Lincoln bedroom and take home all our latest technology but it’s not O.K. for our Navy to ply the seas of the world?

The Chinese would get their asses totally kicked. They are combat virgins and would be facing the deadliest, most battle-tested military on the planet. All it would take would be to have the USS Ohio/Georgia/Michigan/Florida SSGNs pump 100 Tomahawk cruise missiles into the Three Gorges Dam and China is crippled.

It would be a repeat of '79 when the Chinese tried to invade Vietnam and the battle-tested NVA kicked them back to China with their tails betweed their legs.

The Chinese, if involved in a war, wouldn’t follow any rules or restrain themselves. They might not be experienced, but for all we know, they might very well win. Unlike our politicians, if in a war, the Chinese politicians wouldn’t skimp on supplies and support. Our troops would very likely end up dead in far more massive numbers and civilians would get attacked here as well.

I doubt it. These kinds of military exercises have for decades been tools of diplomacy. They are ways of making statements, sometimes provoking a response. They will not lead to war.
