Mosque flap swirls around Obama

The White House on Saturday struggled to tamp down the controversy over President Barack Obama’s statements about a mosque near Ground Zero — insisting Obama wasn’t backing off remarks Friday night where he offered support for a project that has infuriated some families whose loved ones died in the Sept. 11 attacks.

Obama’s comments placed him in the middle of the controversy over a Muslim group’s plans for a mosque near the site of the 2001 attack — and in turn, transformed an emotion-laden local dispute in New York into a nationwide debate overnight.

Republicans pounced, amid early signs that the issue would seep into some state and congressional contests. “It is divisive and disrespectful to build a mosque next to the site where 3,000 innocent people were murdered at the hands of Islamic extremism,” said Florida GOP Senate candidate Marco Rubio. His opponent, Charlie Crist, a Republican turned independent, came out in support of Obama’s comments.

And Democrats — at least some who were willing to comment — could barely contain their frustration over Obama’s remarks, saying he had potentially placed every one of their candidates into the middle of the debate by giving GOP candidates a chance to ask them point-blank: Do you agree with Obama on the mosque, or not?

That could be particularly damaging to moderate Democrats in conservative-leaning districts, already 2010’s most vulnerable contenders.

[snip] Obama’s comments Friday night — at an Iftar dinner at the White House marking the start of Ramadan — were widely reported as offering support for the specific mosque project in question near Ground Zero.

giving GOP candidates a chance to ask them point-blank: Do you agree with Obama on the mosque, or not?

One has to wonder, given the poor record the GOP has for capitalizing on liberal gaffes and lies, how many (R) candidates will even do this.

I half expect some RINO to come out publicly and defend Hussein on this.

Are the people who want to build the mosque there supporters of Al Quaeda?

Only half?

I'll send you a dollar if no RINO does.

Obama stands on a United States Constitution principle?

Is it a constitutional principle for the State Department to fund the Imam's middle east trip so he can raise the necessary funds to build this monstrosity?

Is it possible that this “flap” is, as the Canadian Muslim state representative stated on FoxNews on Friday morning, only a “Trojan Horse” to take attention off something else?

“His opponent, Charlie Crist, a Republican turned independent, came out in support of Obama’s comments.”

I think that’s game, set, match....don’t you? Let me the first to congratulate you “Senator” Rubrio on your magnificent victory.

Not just Americans: People from 67 countries were killed there that day. There is no way we should allow them to be voiceless in this fight for respect and honor at Ground Zero.

Yeah, Obama is gung ho for the Constitution when he thinks it agrees with his own beliefs and sympathies. The rest of the time he’s indifferent to it. Consider for instance that he went through entire healthcare debate without once mentioning the constitutionality of it. That was huge yet he never once brought the Constitution into the conversation. But now all the sudden he’s Thomas Jefferson.

Religious freedom applies to religions.

My definition of Islam is this, its not a religion in my judgement, not a religion according to how I was raised and its not a religion for future generations.

Its a death cult that will not give any person a true and proper purpose in life, its a twisted ideology that is used by controllers over the weak and humble.

There are good people that have been forced to live under Islamic teachings, they can walk away from it, its our job to kepp it away from our future generation.

And if needed hunt it down and eliminate it. The cult of Satan must know its place.

All this spinning is making me dizzy.

I don’t care how much he tries to “explain” or the media tries to “clarify,” he said what he said; we all know it and we know exactly what he meant. His true colors are out in the open now, and if anyone still believes in this guy and his krapola, they have to be idiots.

Gotta love the hypocrisy of the left. These are the same pyschos ripping crosses off war memorials and tearing down the Ten Commandments in the name of “separation of church and state”. But as long as it is muslim, “separation of church and state” is thrown out the window!

Let’s face it. If this were a Christian Church or a Jewish Synagogue (Temple) etc., the secularist Obama wouldn’t care. Sure he liked Reverend Wright’s Church, but only because Reverend Wright slammed the USA and whites all the time.

This Mosque is becoming like the Sudetenland Germans were to Hitler, strategic proxies for Liberals and Islamists. It’s where they come together to annoy and plan further harm for our way of life.

Yeah, I read that too, but I only have so much space on these posters for captions, and as they say in advertising...less is more.

Besides the point I'm making is about Constitutional rights in rebuttal to obama's claim that muslims have a "right " build a mosque.

The foreign people were not citizens and were not covered by the Constitution...technically.

We good?

Obama learned about religion from Reverend Wright - hate America. That’s all he knows.
