The Two Americas: Those For and Against the Ground Zero Mosque
YBH.com ^ | 8/15/10 AEST

Posted on 08/15/2010 3:32:11 PM PDT by dselig

In the end, John Edwards was right. There are two Americas, though not based on Mr. Edward’s fairy tale of GOP rich and liberal poor. Those divisions of course exist, but the richest among us tend to belong to Mr. Edwards own party. The real dividing line in this country is: those that are for an Islamic Mosque and cultural center in the shadow of Ground Zero, and those that are against it.

All polls show that the majority of this country falls into the latter category. Not surprisingly, President-out-of-touch Obama is for the mosque.

From health care, to economic policy, to the Ground Zero mosque, President Obama cares not for the will of the American public. The President’s historic election offered so much hope. That image is in shambles. The worst part? Obama could care less what the majority of Americans think. To paraphrase a leftist commenter on a leftist blog I read last night: “Why should we care what the majority of the American public thinks, they elected George W. Bush twice.” That sentence could have been written by Barack Obama himself.

To borrow a phrase from Mr. Out-of-Touch, let me be clear, American Muslims have the right to build mosques wherever they can get the permits for them. What galls most Americans is the insensitivity of the left and Muslims to the fallen of 9/11. The developers of the mosque harp on constantly about how the cultural center will lead to greater understanding between cultures.

I ask respectfully, what has Islam as a whole done to shed itself from the hold of its radical members? Where are the throngs of moderate Muslims protesting against terrorism? You haven’t seen them on CNN? Neither have I, or anyone else. Crickets from over a billion moderate Muslims does not equate to being against terrorism.

By building the mosque near Ground Zero, the proponents of Islam in America are causing further division. By backing the faith of his childhood (at least culturally) over the will of the American public, Barack Obama is showing his true colors: those of a complete ideologue. Obama rules this country only for the narrow interests of himself and his closest supporters.

It is hard to see a more harmonious America at the end of Mr. Obama’s reign. But I digress.

To the New York mosque-eteers. Move the mosque. Show that Islam is actually capable of sensitivity to those around it. In the end, moving (or at least delaying until Ground Zero is re-built) the mosque would be a real first step toward improving U.S./Islamic relations.

Not as good as the speech he gave at Arlington Cemetary on Memorial Day or to the Boy Scouts on their 100th Anniversary.

70% of people are against it.

Actually, two polls showed that 65% agreed that they have a legal right to build it, but 65% said it would be better if they chose another location. Obama could have covered both bets by saying, of course by our laws they have they right, but it would be nice if they would consider the fellings of Americans and build elsewhere.

Someone told me the reason they want to build there is because they already own the property. Actually there is a profitable fix for that. They could do a Starker (IRS 1031) Excange. With that if you sell a property, put the money in escrow and buy another property of the same or greater value, you do not have to pay capital gains tax on your profit. We did this to good effect with land my husband inherited 1,000 miles away for land and a pond only 120 miles away.

Perhaps some public spirited citizen who owns a suitable property in NY will make them an offer that would be economically stupid to refuse.

Two Americas?

The Goths (a Germanic people) invaded the Roman Empire in the fourth century A.D. and settled in France and Spain. About three hundred years later the Muslims took Visigoth Spain with the help of Spanish rivals of the Visigoth king named Roderick. There are sordid details about how this rivalry came about but some argue that it was simply a struggle for the Visigoth throne.

The rivals expected to gain and the Muslims greatly benefited. An all powerful Islamic "government" can mean an awful lot for those who go along. Could there be Americans who would do these things? Well.. a lot of Americans loved Uncle Joe Stalin.. not much difference.

I give you Hagia Sophia:

“The Hagia Sophia or Ayasofya as it is known in Turkish was actually a patriarchal Basilica that has been considered to be an embodiment of Byzantine architecture and also had the distinction of remaining the largest cathedral in the world until 1520. Built on the orders of the Byzantine Emperor Justinian, its interiors were richly decorated with artistic mosaics depicting various religious scenes and were supported by massive marble pillars.”

“For God, the Cid, and Spain”

“1080. It was an unhappy time. Spain was war-torn. It was half Christian and half Moor. Rodrigo Diaz of Vivar came to be known as “El Cid” (”The Lord”). He was a simple man who became Spain’s greatest hero. At the time the African Emir was Ben Yusuf who gathered his forces in North Africa.

Ben Yusuf tells his men that they will first take Spain, then Europe and then the whole world.

A Spanish church is burning. A Catholic Father prays at the burned altar. Rodrigo comes over to help the Father get up. He tells the Father that they have captured the leaders of the destruction. The Father says to Rodrigo that he is a long way from home. Rodrigo explains that he was on his way to his wedding when he suddenly had to fight a battle with the Moors. Now he will take the captured Moorish leaders to Vivar.”

The enemy, both the marxist domestic enemy in DC and the muzzie/marxist enemy abroad, are relentless and will not take no for an answer short of armed resistance.

At some point will the right will come to understand this.

Yet another vile comment made by this fraud BEFORE HE WAS ELECTED. I surely hope the people that voted for BHO are starting to wake up. I pray it’s not too late.

Obama isn’t out of touch, he is a Muslim.

Of course he wants to build the mosque and spit in the face of Americans.

"Why should we care what the majority of the American people thinks, they elected George W. Bush twice."

How soon they have forgotten the point they used to obsess over--the fact that Gore got more popular votes than Bush in 2000 (although neither had a majority).

If and when push comes-to-shove where do you think all those moderate muslems will go. You can bet all your pork sausages they will be sucking the air at Obama’s backside. A serious question is why do we say moderate muslems all the time as if there are no muslems who are liberal muslems. All this talk of diversity sounds more like a political tower of babel.

For in the end, we remain “one nation, under God, indivisible.” And we can only achieve “liberty and justice for all” if we live by that one rule at the heart of every great religion, including Islam —- that we do unto others as we would have them do unto us.

I wonder where are the passages in the Koran that say this? I know it's a teaching of Jesus, and while I can't quote the passages in the New Testament, it seems to me He was very precise and clear in the instruction, and that you were intended to apply it not only to your own circle or society, but all people, all the time, even when you didn't know them from Adam.

I think Obama is lying with the statment. I think the Golden Rule is alien to the Koran. But most people placidly and willingly engage the illusion that all religions say, more or less, the same thing. It's the path of least resistence in "getting along." A line from a movie: "Being a criminal is the easy way. It's like water. Water takes the path of least resistence. And so you get crooked rivers, and crooked men."

And crooked political policy.

I think counting on these guys NOT being stupid is in vain. I'm in a movie quoting mood ... "A little people. A silly people. Greedy, barbarous, and cruel." (Lawrence of Arabia)
