President Obama's visit snarls traffic on L.A.'s Westside
Los Angeles Times ^ | Aug 24, 2010 | Robert J. Lopez

Navigating rush-hour traffic on Los Angeles' Westside, which is never an easy task, was even worse in some areas Monday evening as streets were blocked off because of a visit by President Obama.

Obama arrived in Los Angeles for a fundraiser at the home of "ER" and "The West Wing" executive producer John Wells and his wife, Marilyn.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Rep. Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.), chairman of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, also are expected to attend.

The Los Angeles Police Department said it had received a number of calls from people about the traffic but had not been given information on street closures from the Secret Service.

Shows how much Obama cares about "the little people"-- the Secret Service should have informed and coordinated with the police in advance, but didn't.

Another amusing article about this -- amusing, because I bet many, if not most of the people inconvenienced by this were Obama voters:

Commuters, residents fume over traffic jam caused by Obama's visit

"One man, who did not want to give his name, said it had taken his wife four hours to drive home from Brentwood. Another man trying to walk west on 6th Street to his office shouted at the officers blocking his way and told them he wished he had voted for Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), Obama's opponent in the 2008 presidential race. "

‘Obama’s Security Team have Cleverly Surrounded him with a Wall of Gridlock’ & Other Tales from the Today’s Traffic Jam

Anytime a President has arrived in Los Angeles, traffic has been inconvenienced. But today’s afternoon rush hour visit of Obama seems to have had a magic touch in that really unmagical way. Angelenos have been sharing their experiences from the road, some funny, some reeking of exasperation. Here are a just a few of their stories.

It took my sister an hour to get home from her job and her job is usually a 5 minute drive. Traffic was absolutely insane here. I have never seen that much traffic on our street before, it was a parking lot, it was just as bad on Olympic all the way to Century City. He ruined a lot of people’s day, I bet he could care less

From article at link above:

I was literally barricaded in on a small, residential block for over an hour with at least fifty people for over an hour," he wrote. "Going through this gridlock is extra-painful because I know it is due to partisan fundraising rather than state business."

Looks like his fans have also been disappointed:

Obama raises a quick $1 million — and some L.A. commuter ire

http://www.latimes.com/news/nationworld/nation/la-na-obama-la-20100817,0,6969841.story

“I was an Obama supporter, but … was stopped by police from crossing Olympic to get home … during my daily dog walk,” Amy Christine said on the website. “I’ve lost all belief in his judgment. Can he really think he’s more important than the tens of thousands of people trying to get home to their families?”

Every action he takes shows that he has no consideration for anyone, except himself and Muslims.

Wilshire was even worse. I live near Wilshire and damn, never seen anything like it..for hours nonstop traffic on my street. I bet many of those people who were forced to wait for literally HOURS were Obama voters, wonder what they think of their messiah now

Well, maybe these people will remember this in November and work to correct their mistakes.

Generic Ballot: Republican 48%, Democrat 36%

Generic polls show Republicans way ahead of Dems.

In all fairness, all of these honchos, when they visit, tie up traffic and make a mess of entire cities. I remember once when Dick Cheney came to my town; what would have been a 20 minute trip across town took me an hour and 45 minutes...and I was in a cab to boot (kinda expensive). Streets were closed off which were nowhere near where Cheney was going or the route he was taking. It was a nightmare. Now, I liked George Bush and Dick Cheney, but that was one time I would have liked to have clobbered Cheney. If I had my druthers, the politicians would stay home.
